What kind of oil are you guys running in your 5 speeds? Mine needs to be changed and I thought that I would do a bit of research before I swapped it out. I have heard that the Royal Purple isnt that great and the Redline MTL works good. Any other thoughts?

Redline call for a 50/50 mix of MTL and MT90. I am running 3 quarts of MT90 and 2 quarts of MTL with good results so far.

I have some full synthetic GM stuff in mine (thanks MOtero) and it dont work good in my particular one.

the syntorq I took out had about 50K on it and there was a slight grinding starting when you put it in 3rd.

After I put in the GM stuff, it was instantly worse.

I think Im either going to LE or just back to syntorq.

BTW, Im not sure about "synchromesh" but GM does sell an oil that is the same as syntorq.

I know mines not the NV4500, but I sure like the Redline MTL I have in mine. I've had it in for about 20,000 miles and it still shifts as smooth as it did the day I changed it... .

I've always used Mopar $$$ except for the last change. I put in Redline MT90. It worked fine. This time when I changed it I went back to Mopar and was surprised that the price was lowered to $15 a Qt. Next change I'm going to try Amsoil. They have a replacement oil specifically for the NV-4500 at about $10. a Qt. I'm also switching all other fluids to Amsoil.

Just be sure it is a GL-4, not a GL-5 rating. The extra additives in the higher rating wipe out the fiber parts.

Dont use the Gm syncromesh if you go through gm you need to use part#12346190 the number for gm and chyrsler oil are both on the sticker on the pto cover

well i got the redline in mine not sure what exactly sinc ei bought it w/ it in there but i will be changing it tomorrow and putting in redline mt90 and ill come back w/ an opinion of it for yall who are interested

royal purple slicked mine up pretty good, god only knows what was in there and i had a slight crunch between gears, rp got rid of the crunch and 5-6k miles later still going good. i've seen where others had bad luck with it though, i think the issue with gl-5 oil is the sulphur attacking the syncros in high heat conditions like towing

I have had great luck with the Redline MT90 like others have posted. Never heard of mixing it with the MTL though. Says right on the bottle nothing about that but maybe I missed something..... been running good otherwise.

I have been interested in trying the Amsoil products but haven't had the chance..... or money :-laf
