Who makes the best power steering pump mine just took a crap at 52000. Also does anyone know what years the hydraulic lines had a tendancy to collapse inside?

well I just went through the same thing last month. Nightmare!! Dealership was expensive and on National backorder. That kit included the pump, pulley, reservoir, and a belt. All auto parts stores will sell a rebuild with no pulley. That pulley is worth more than gold right now so make sure you have someone with a successful track record pull the pulley off your old pump. Repair manual specifically says not to reuse the pulley though. If your 2006 is like my 03 you will most likely be replaceing the steering gear box, and the Brake booster. $1500 repair at the shop I used $2500 at the dealer. My pulley was broken during removal, thats where the nightmare came in. I ended up calling about 20 wrecking yards before I found a pump with a pulley. I decided to put the used pump on rather than risk pulling that pulley to place on the rebuild pump that has a bad record of repeat failures.

I know not exactly what you asked, but I hope you find this helpful.

I would see if its a Part that Cummins can get for you.

52K is not a normal lifespan for these pumps. I would suggest more frequent fluid changes on the next one. There is no specified fluid change interval, but its one of the most overlooked fluids on any vehicle.

Tried the cummins route and they said they had nothing to do with the pump. Since I posted I went through the same thing as mrood exactly, I ordered up a used pump from lkq for 81 bucks with 17k on it and a one warranty. Mrood why did you replace the box and booster just to be safe because of the shelled out pump debris or was there some other reason? Thanks guys

By the way even though the dealer couldn't get that kit or give a timeline on getting one the price was 1400 dollars!!!!!
Now I'm wondering the cause the failure at 50000 miles I don't want to put this thing on just to have it vet shelled out again and I've heard of the hyd lines on some folks trucks collapsing and causing the failure. This supposedly is not visible from the outside.

well as I understand it when the pump goes it causes damage to the gear box because of heat from lack of fluid. and the debris from the failure gets pushed through the Hydroboost clogging screens that apparently cant be cleaned. I am no expert on this however I was given this same information from 3 independent sources, and sure enough mine needed all 3 parts to make it work.

UPDATE!!!
I am doing the steering again 8 months later. Bad steering box. some is overed under warranty, some is not. I am going with a Redhead box and the updated PS pump from Chrysler. Pump is a fortune but supposed to be waaaayyyyyyy better. I'll let ya know if I ever get the truck back

3 weeks later I have the truck back. It steers great. Redhead gear box, Chrysler Pump and a newly reconditioned Brake booster. $1300 later for the chrysler pump and the redhead box.
