Best route Texas to Las Vegas?

Planning to leave Austin Sat morning and head to May Madness, pulling a 33ft 5th wheel. Taking I 10 to Pheonix and then 60/93 to Kingman. Is this the best way? How are the roads, diesel prices, etc. Any input would be appreciated.

I was just looking at the same thing. I'm trying to decide whether to run 40 or 10. I'm leaning towards the southern route. My clutch is on the outs and I'll be pulling a 32' 5er. I figured the southern route would be a little less trying on my clutch. I do know however, that the roads pretty well suck in most of NM and parts of AZ along I-10 (last time I was down them). I'll be leaving fri morning.

When I came back to LV from Temple TX last September, I took I20 through Abilene, 84 through Lubbock to Clovis and Sumner NM, 84 to Santa rosa, I-40 to Kingman AZ, 93 to LV. The Rand McNally guide said to take interstates the whole way (quicker)(N to OK City then W on I-40) but it was wrong. The way I came back (above) was better. Hope this helps.

I cruised I-40 the later part of March and you are so correct. NM had quite a few breakups and chuck holes. Wall to wall truck and least going east.

Thanks for the replies. Joe, I know that route thru Lubbock and Clovis well, probably drove it 30 times but not in the last 20 yrs. I would like to get some current info on road conditions on I-40 and I-10. So far I am leaning toward the southern route.

We'll be going up and catching 40 and going that way. The I-10 route is soo, well, UGLY. I'd do just about anything to not have to ever make that Van Horn, Ft. Stockton, El Paso route again. We'll be leaving early Sat. morning and spending the first night in Albe. , the second night around the Flagstaff area (maybe Williams) and then going on to Vegas on Monday.

Anyone in the vicinity of Oklahoma leaving tomorrow? We (wife and two boys) are leaving tomorrow evening, stay at a rest area west of Armadillo, and then the big hole in Arizona for two days. We'll be in Vegas on Monday. Anyone up for that?
