So I know it's been talked about here and there, but does anyone have any hard proof of a SW that has improved mileage.

I am getting ready to leave on a 3-4,000 mile trip towing my trailer.

Last summer, Smarty on 1 I got 10. 7MPG on my trip to Yellowstone. If I could get better that would be awesome with the cost of fuel.

I currently tow on Level 5 of the latest SW, Moderate TM, Aftermarket injector and Aftermarket Turbo.

Fuel economy is a physics formula... . based on wind resistance, rolling resistance, acceleration, and weight..... There are very few things that will change mpg except the items above. . Dodge would jump at an improvement that would give them 2 mpg based on C. A. F. E. , (corporate average fuel economy). CAFE is a federal standard based on the sold vehicles and their fleet... so for every big truck sold they need to offset the sale with a small vehicle or two...

The key is to reduce weight, or any of the fixed items listed above... its very hard... the only thing that I have found that functions for me after several hundred hours using a dyno years ago is to accelerate slower and drive slower to reduce the wind resistance...

My wife driving the same route, vehicle, will easily get 2-4 mpg better economy because she accelerates slower and will drive 7-10 mph slower than I do... .

We used to offer any company selling their products (snake oil) dyno time if the product improved mpg... we had the ability to set the vehicle up and measure fuel flow under load... nothing we ever tried ever improved mpg except slick 50 in the transmission and rear end... there was an almost an instant improvement BUT we found that the product had to be re-introduced every 15-20K miles to be effective... and wasn't cost effective... .

My personal thoughts is there is nothing on the market that will do what your asking for that will give you a suitable return on your investment over say 25K miles... . its easy to make it go faster, accelerate faster, run smoother etc... .

I own several trucks, my fuel use is close to 1500 gal a month... I'd step up in a heart beat for 2-3 mpg... with a payoff in 10,000 miles. . Trust me on this...

I have seen you post that or something similar in the past.

I already have the Smarty, it's for fun.

I tried on my Yellowstone trip last year to run Stock SW for a tank and see how it would go. I couldn't do it.

The first grade out of Butte Montana I was driving by egt's at 1,300-1,350 and losing speed due to the temps, I was at about 50MPH at the top of the hill.

Smarty on level 1 I could pull all those grades at 65MPH and 1,200-1,250*.

I stopped at the top of the hill, loaded up Level 1, had a ECM Error, ran the recovery, got scared half to death, loaded up Level 1.

20 minutes later I was on the road with lower egt's and no MPG experiment.

With fuel at 4. XX /Gallon I would be willing to slow down a bit more if it would help MPG.

Jim is absolutely right except he forgot one thing. Burning fuel more effiecent will result in using less fuel. Most power modules/programmers will advance the timing allowing better burn of the fuel. EPA regulations have retarded the timing so bad that MPG suffer, go figure burn more fuel to have less emissions. They also might do other little tricks, I don't know.

I know with my Smarty Jr. I get great MPG increase lately. How much I'am not going to say, too many nay sayers/bashers.

:-laf The problem with looking for mpg improvements with electronics is that we tend to drive faster. When towing with the smarty you just don't notice the additional speed. I will take the improved driveability and what ever the mpgs are I will know it is good for my driving style.

Bob

My dad actually noticed a decrease in mileage with the Jr, but we know why... Before he would drive his EGT's to 1250 max (no where near full power on an 06)... now he drives what speed he wants and stays below 1250*... . so he is going faster, which takes more fuel... .

Dodge would jump at an improvement that would give them 2mpg IF the EPA would allow them to make that improvement!!!!!!!!!!

There are very few things except the ones you listed, and a huge one is altering injection events to optimize fuel economy as opposed to optimizing emissions! :D

A special thanks to Marco and Bob... . 40hp is what the EPA cost me with retarded timing, now I have it back :D
