If you were buying a replacement engine, from Cummins or any other source, and were looking for maximum reliability and maximum power potential what would you buy? Anyone experienced with the marine engines? When I replace my current engine I want the best starting point, reguardless of year, ect. Thanks, JTMcC.

OK, lets narrow it down to the best 5. 9 Cummins as a starting point for a reliable, high HP engine. What has the best pistons, ect. I'm perticularly interested in knowing if there is an advantage in starting with a marine engine?

If we can agree to start with the Cummins B, the 370 marine has better pistons, and high temp cast iron such as the head. However, the 215 hp has a better injection pump, and you would want the bigger valve springs. The marine engine would be very expensive new, and not all of the stuff you are paying for is the "best" for power. So, you would end up mixing and matching. . . carefully :D

Thanks for the reply Joe. I think you are recomending the 215hp Dodge application? What pump do they use on the marine engine? I would be buying a cummins reman long block most likely and would hate to find out later that I could have got better components. My best bet for a 215 horse is probably to buy a truck with one already installed! Sounds good to me. JTMcC.
