well its time for a transmission with 120k on her and way to many bombs for a stock transmission... as of right now it just slips with the dc on 5x5 but is ok in the lower levels... so i'm starting to look now before she goes all the way... i dont plan on doing any more bombs except for a lilbit bigger turbo b/c of egts... i dont have to much money right now. . like $2000 to $2500 is all i have. i would like to go with a ddt or equivalent brand, but to much money right now. i think i just need a rebuild, converter, and valvebody but i would have $1000 to $1300 in a converter and $500 to $700 in a valvebody. so at the most i would only have $500 to $1000 to pay for a rebuild. . what do you guys think i should do?

thanks shelby

the worm can is now opened again---you will get replies saying DTT, SunCoast, Goerend and ATS---best I can tell you is call each of them and see who you like--I have DTT and believe it's the best, but others believe their's is the best, so good luck--you could check out Bully Dog also----chris

You can get a full Goerend transmission and single disc T/C for the money you have. Really like mine, all be it I have a triple disc. No problems at all, and I'm not easy on it. From the looks of your sig, you may want to get a triple disc.

Give Dave a call. Great guy to deal with, as are his employees. :D

Do it once and do it right. It is 500 buck each time you RandR the transmission. Decide which you want and do it right the first time. As someone above pointed out, you really need a GOOD custom transmission for what you are running. See if there are members in your area that will give you a test ride. Being able to drive to Bill's shop in Canada made my choice ez. Read DTT WEB info on all the hard parts that he puts in a transmission and then ask the others what they do in each area. Some will tell you that some of it is an over kill, but next year when I am traveling to the East Coast or this fall down the left coast I will have piece of mind. SNOKING

Bigthumper - I have to agree with post above in that, 1-do it once and do it right, 2-you should get a trans specifically build to your application/use/level of anticipated abuse, and 3-throwing pieces at it only expends $$$ that you will spend doing it right all at once. I can appreciate that you have invested some $$$ already, the Classified Section is helpful returning some of the $$. When I had mine done I put it on a credit card :{ yes I did, unfortunately I had to as mine was on it's way out. At the time the truck had 139k and was stock except: exhaust, Mag Hy-Tech DD pan and cosmetics. During a regular trans fluid/filter change I took the pan off and found sludge. Installed new filter, ATF+3 and a week later (keep in mind I only drive 6 miles round trip to work) I pulled the pan to see what lay at the bottom. More black and metal junk. Since we were going to the Keys for vacation (2 weeks) I struck a deal w/Tim Barber then of Va. Beach, VA. I drove my truck and wife drove the XC-70 to Tim's place. Two weeks later I was driving my new trans home, two weeks later Mach 1. 6 sticks and Edge Comp (wire tapped) went in. I've been liking it ever since. So much so I'm looking at Mach 4s and an HTT puffer . . . It is a slippery slope. :-laf

I'm a Goerends fan. I'm also a fan of his warranty.

Ask around about warranties.

Each company has their own "flavor" of how a transmission should work. If you want muscle car, hard fast shifts, DTT. If you want smooth shifts Goerends.

We were going to go with the Green Mojave but backed out and went with TCS ,,,, Very Reasonable on price , Running a 400+ HP truck as a daily driver and romper/puller so far so good! 1000 Miles

With a slight power jack to brake the tires loose it will squall them all the way threw the gears TOO COOL !

The PCM plays a part in the shifting as well. The PCM "learns" how you drive. If you drive easy, the shifts are softer. If you are running hard (hammer to the floor and shifting manually) or towing trailers, it firms right up. If you shift manually (with the hammer down), it will push you into the seat. :D Oo. Oo.

nobody talked about BD TRANNIES. has anybody used thiers, and were they to expectation. they talk a good game on the ads and sound like they do a lot of testing. as i may be looking soon as i to am slowly slipping down that hill as well ... and still have a need for the black smoke to pour out of my 4" into the car next to me at a stop light with his window down :-laf :-laf

I don't see how a pre 2004. 5 the PCM can vary the shift firmness. All the PCM has control of is is governor pressure, lockup, and OD.

Goerend, Very happy customer! You can get a full rebuild and a triple disk for the money you have, give or take! You wont find better customer service or warranty.

Zstroken, You Are Correct. The Pcm Cannot Adjust Shift Firmness On 47/48.

It Also Cannot Learn Anything On The Powertrain Control Side.

As the other guys have said... .

I think it's the fact that Dave knows the valvebodies in these transmissions that well. He can set them up to react under all of the conditions. Not just make it shift one way all the time.

Goerand here. Unbelievable service! Dave will go above and beyond the call of duty! Hew helped me through a bunch of trans issues...
