Im wondering what you guys think is the best turbo timer:

#1 sit in the truck and watch the pyro;

#2 Isspro's turbo timer, get out of truck and leave and the timer shuts the truck down at 300*.

#3 Howards timer, set it to either 2,4 or 6 minutes and it shuts the truck down after the time you set. (www.cool-downtimer.com)

My fear with the isspro unit, is that what if for some reason the truck always take 5 minutes or so to get to 300*? I would use a post turbo thermo to run the unit, since it is always a little cooler.

My fear with the howard unit is what if someone else does not realize that you have to push the activate button, and they shut if off hot (I. E. , wife)?

The howard unit is quite a bit cheaper than the isspro, but the isspro seems to be a little more user friendly and less trouble.

any suggestions/comments?

With the Isspro if you want you can change the temperature to anything that you want. I've had an Isspro turb temp monitor on my truck for 5 years and love it. Only thing you have to be careful about is to make sure you turn the AC off (which means have it on the vent or floor heat settings - all others run the AC compressor. If you don't turn off the AC compressor it will take a long time for your truck to cool down to 300.

Thats good to know. The isspro site does not advertise that it is adjustable, nor does the catalog.

Steve, do you have your thermo mounted pre or post turbo?

Post turbo for the turbo temp monitor, pre turbo for my egt gauge. The setting for the temp is a potentiometer than comes set at 300 degrees - there's no marks on it or anything so you have to hook up an egt gauge along with it to adjust it. I have mine set at 300 and haven't ever changed it.

You might also want to look at the Turbo Diesel Life Saver from Geno's Garage. It works like the Howard except that you only have one small push-button switch to set the timer. The control box mounts behind the dash out of sight. You just hold the button down and count the "beeps" for the minutes of cooldown you want (from 1 to 5 min). It also has a security feature where you can install a hidden switch and it will keep the truck from starting even if someone has the key.

It is a bit "pricey" but I liked it so much on my '97 that I got one for my '04 when I traded.
