Ok, just got looking in Archives with no clean concise answer. I am wondering what turbo is the best for me. I use my truck as an everyday driver, mostly empty, and when I tow it ranges from 2000-17000 pounds on the farm. I am NOT looking for severe horsepower. My goal is 300hp/650tq or there about. I drive like a grandma alot, but when I want and need the power, I used it to the max. I am needing to replace my stock turbo and was wondering what would be the best single turbo for my setup. I plan to put a little larger injectors soon, but the turbo comes first. oh, I do alot of cruising at 55-60 and 70-75. avrg about 18mpg. Any help there would be nice. Oo.

I'm going for about the same except for an auto trans. , and so far I'm looking at a HTB2 , but still looking , I want a exhaust brake & with the 4" ex. , I think that having a 4" hole all the way through is a good Idea , then theres maybe a phat shaft that could fit , but maybe posting will get some more info.
But if money is not too much of a issue , than twins could be fun also.

Figure out what injectors you are going to get, the choose the turbo. Are you going to get a different plate at all? A HTT HTB2 w/ 62/'gated12cm2 housing would probably be a good choice. Or maybe a Dodgezilla 40/35 hybrid.

I thought I'd stop at 300hp, but past that now. You can see what mods I have now.

I pulled my 370s out last night, if interested. ;) DDP Stage 4s are in. Oo. Oo.

bmoeller. I was thinking to put in 370's. but I don't know. What do you all think. If you want to sell your old 370's I would be interested if they are what i need. I will most likely get a tst #10 plate or equivalent.

Just heard back from MMiller. His brother is going to buy the 370s. I gave him first stab at them. The 370s make cheap power, but like my DDP extrude honed injectors better. Would suggest a set of Stage 3s. A set of 370s is about 1/2 the price of the Stage 3, with similar power output.

With you having a bigger fuel injection pump, running a set of 370s (or equivalent) with a 10 plate, you'll a need bigger turbo than what I mentioned in the last post. Plus a stronger clutch. May need something like a HTB2 64/w 'gated 14cm2 housing. I don't know if a PDR HX-40 will be enough air. I'm on the outer limits of mine. Isn't a problem empty, but won't be enough for you to tow much weight. EGTs get plenty warm.

Also, bump the fuel injection pump timing to 16*. It'll lower your EGTs, help the mileage a bit, and give a little more power.

IIRC, C. Harlan is puting down 416 rear wheel hp on his, with a 10 plate, stock injectors, 191 delivery valves and a PDR HX-40 turbo. Not sure what his EGTs are like. May want to PM him.

The stock turbo can handle 300 HP no problem. My bro hit 375 RWHP in his 24V with the same HX35 I'm running now, but he said is was quite restrictive because just swapping to the HTT HX40 he has on now netted him 35 HP with no other changes and that was on 8 PSI less boost. But 300 is still plenty doable, if thats all you want than I wouldn't even think about going anything past a hybrid.

Just get the #10 plate and 3kgsk and slide it 3/4 way forward and you will be wherer I dynoed if it is tuned right.

HX35 can handle 300 RWHP easy even with a pretty big load. I would worry about the clutch before the turbo. Won't need injectors with the 215 unless you want more than 375 or so.

See what you think.

What if I did this. hx40, 3pc Manifold. Best intake. Timing to 16*, #10 plate. Cleaned stock injectors or get honed stock 215's. What horsepower and torque do you guess and what kind of EGT's do you guess. PS... My clutch is good to 800ftlbs

I would say good plan!! Give Piers a call and I'm sure you would get a deal buying all at once. Myself I'd leave out the hone job and opt for a 3k gov spring kit. In my experience 10plate centered with a PDR 40 rpm kit 15. 5* timing exhaust and a AFE intake was right at 300rwhp and a bit over your 650tq wish. The good thing was it was VERY usable spoolup is not a problem at this lower HP level with the 5 spd!! Good luck

I'm guessing you have the south bend con O? Thats a decent clutch. You still do not need anything more than the stock turbo with those mods you listed. The only thing at that power level you are doing is hurting your driveability because of slow turbo spoolup. You are wasting your money if you don't get injectors, you need atleast 350 RWHP to spoolup an HX40 half decently. If you get injectors you can get the HX40, but if you are sticking with stock injectors stay with the stock turbo. With the mods you listed with stock injectors and with the stock HX35 you will be well over 300 RWHP and 700 ft/lbs.

And as mentioned above go with the 3K governer spring kit.

Thanks for your help so far guys. I will keep you all posted. I am fixing to move from oklahoma to oregon (eugene) this tuesday, truck will have to do for now.

You guys can check out mysignature, but I really like the HTT stuff, the price and service can't be beat. If you are wanting an HTT charger PM me with what you want and I can see what I can do.

What mods did you have? My bro runs a 40 with 400 RWHP in his 24V, but if he unplugs his edge box and goes down around the 300 RWHP level it is a complete dog and takes forever to spool!

Thats odd as the 24v seem to be alittle quicker then the 12vlv. Anyway I had a Afe with the 10 plate centered 4k springs and 282 rwhp added the PDR-40 with exhaust and ATS. It was really fun, no temp problems and plenty o power.

BTW: stock the truck was right at 200rwhp bumping the timing to 15. 5* added 14. ? more
