I have a 92 intercooled with a 16c turbo and PW injectors. I want to improve bottom-end response but not hurt cruising at 75mph. Been following posts about guys using the 12c wastegate. Need some advice from users who have been there.

14c wastegate, or 12c wastegate? I don't want smoke beyond a light haze under hard power.
 
RD there is also a 14 cm housing available that does not have the waste gate, therefore reducing the over all cost ( no custom exhaust work is needed ). as far as i know you will have to have the down pipe modified for the 12, 14 cm with the waste gate, shortened the appropriate amout ,the differance between the waste gate and no waste gate housings. as for the smoke that can all be adjusted at the pump with a few common hand tools!!

i have heard that the 12, 14 w / w. g. is about 2- 3 times the price of a non w. g. housing . i would go with the 14 non w. g. housing if price and ease of installation was priority!!!!!!!!!! b. o. m. b. on brother. . try Piers diesel research for the 14 non w. g. housing .
 
Actually I believe Piers said that the 14cm non-wastgated also needs downpipe mods. There is still a price advantage however since the unit is priced low like the 16.



When I was looking at 14cm vs. 16cm he kind of talked me into the 16. Felt it was the best match for our engine and mostly because I still have the Getrag. It does not like the early low rpm grunt that the smaller housings generate. One thing that will help though if you go with the smaller housing and have the Getrag is to have the govenor turned up. That way you can raise your shift points to a higher rpm and take some off the strain off.
