Help,

I need help in determining the correct washer thickness to use. I want good power and efficient fuel atomization. Smoke is not an

issue with me. I just want more power without jeopardizing fuel

economy too much. I am new at bombing. Any tips and advise on removal and installation of injectors in general, would be greatly appreciated. I hope to install them on Saturday.

Thanks in advanced, Marc:)

The thinnest washer in the kit from PDR. Do not recall the actual measurement, . 012 maybe? Was told this places the tip at the optimum altitude. The factory washers are like six times the thickness.

WASHER THICKNESS

:)Mark, I got my pods from BD when Piers was still there, and they came with . 023,. 065, and. 093 and I used the . 093 as it was the same size i took out. Is it right? Smokes a bit on to quick a spool up or under heavy load, but runs wonderful. You will need a puller to get them out. Simply take a piece of allthread and a couple nuts that fit the top of the injector tube and use a heavy socket as a driver and a few raps and they will come. Number 6 will be a little tough, but doable. You will love the pods. Tim;)

When I used the PODs I tried the . 060 and the . 023 washers. I found the . 023 washer gave me the best smoke control at idle and I didn't feel any change in overall performance.

The washer to use is the smallest one in the kit. It's twenty thou I believe.

In fact they injector should come with the correct washer already on the tip.

Just make sure that when you remove the old injectors you have all the old washers on the injectors coming out.

Bob.

At 175K my injectors still had the factory paint build up around the holders. I figured I would have a time of it. Used a small vice grip attached to the body just below the threads. With a bit of a twist and a slight pull they ALL poped out:eek: This was very much unlike the last set I changed out which required heating the holder nut a nice cheery red just to loosen the nut. The injector body required a large pry bar. This engine had 9,877 hours on it then. Don't know what that would be in terms of miles.

.070 differance

:) Hey bob, what differance do you think I will see if I put in the . 023 washers on my pods? . 070 closer to the piston will burn cleaner? less smoke? Thanks, Tim

I have a washer kit with rubber washers. Where do I seat these?

Do they go up under the nut above the threads in which I would

have to stretch them a bit or do they stay on the injector shaft

above the retainer ring and below the nut threads? I have

not pulled the old injectors yet and just want to be careful that I am doing it right. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

If they are square cut rubber o-ring, it seats on top of the injector retaining nut, this keeps out crud that can get down in between the retainer and injector body.

Tim1,

Using the thinner washers will allow the injector tip to sit closer to the piston bowl, which in turn will help to focus the fuel cloud a bit tighter and at the fuel bowl.

This has helped reduce some idle haze we get with these injectors.

Dag-gone-it! ;) I wish I would have known that when I installed my POD's... ... ... I would have installed the thickest washer available! :D :D

Greenleaf

PDR's POD injectors come packaged with the . 063" (med thickness washer) installed on the injectors and can be changed out with the thinest washers ( . 023" that come in the install kit) if you prefer the cleanest burn.

If your like Greenleaf, cut down pennies to fit. Install 3 per injector and :D

idle haze

:) Thanks Bob, I do get that idle haze and lots of smoke if i'm a little to quick with the go pedal, however with this set up, it has so much more power than it ever had that I will let her be. Seems the longer that I run them. the better it runs. Tim

Tim1

You said you have more power with the . 093 washer. Have you

tried the thinner washer? What kind of MPG'S are you getting?

milage

Msilva, I meant the pods, not the washers, sorry. As for milage, good empty and ok loaded. The reason I say this, is I don't use the truck much most of the time and 30 gallons last a long time. Problably, best answer is I don't know! Much better than my ford 6. 2 with the banks turbo on it and an auto. Tim

Man these Pods kick butt!Oo. I installed them today with the thin washers. I had to use large vise grips and a crowbar to get the old ones out. I do notice a slight haze of smoke at idle when the motor is warmed up and is worse when cold. Any suggestions? Also my idle speed went way down. When you put it in drive its to the point of lugging the motor. Anybody know the idle screw location? I also hear a metallic ticking sound coming from the top rear of the motor and resonates through the exhaust. I had this sound with the old injectors just not as pronounced. Come to think of it my 03 makes a clanky ticking sound when cold. Is this the nature of the beast? I am happy with the big power increase. Smokes like a steam locomotive at WOT

:D

turn up idle

hey bushWakr, can you explain to msilva the easy way to up the idle a bit. Also msilva, if you advance your pump 1\8" towards the engine, you will be amased how much easier it seems to run, no laboring at idle. At least mine does. Tim
