Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Best way to add 30-50 HP?

I have an 02 3500 4x4 with 6 speed and 4:10 gearing.
I would like a few more ponies to hold 6th gear longer on the smaller hills.
I don't want to have to start upgrading everything so what is the most power I can add with the stock NV 5600?
I had a Smarty on my 03 and that seemed to work well. Do they make a programmer for the 2cnd Gen?
Truck is completely stock with 50k mi.
I also plan to add an exhaust brake.

yes the smarty. look for used ones.
even the edge comp could be of use on lower levels.

Edge and smarty are good ones for your year model as far as tuners/programmers

Edge EZ would do that fine or a Comp without tapping the pump(timing only like EZ).

The Edge EZ is probably exactly what you're looking for. It's ultra simple, nothing to mess with, adds just enough to wake the 24-valve up a little but not make smoke and break things.

I also have an '02 with a six speed, but with 3:54 gears. Everything on the engine is stock as well as the clutch. I have the Smarty programmer (S03) and I wished I purchased it years ago. It is excellent especially for low end torque, throttle response, and fuel economy. You can also read and clear fault codes.

You simply plug the Smarty into the OBDII port and upload the program of your choice in about two minutes.

Another way drop in a set of RV 275's . On my 01 it added 30 horse and 1.5 mpg. Also while your in there adjust the valves.
