Best ways to improve mpg?

EGT on a stock truck?

12 valve head studs? Do I need them?

I'm enjoying reading, learning and gathering info on how to take better care of my (new to me) CTD. This is a great site and everyone seems to have fun and offer help without attitude; much different than other automotive sites I've belonged to in the past.

From reading posts I realize there are probably a hundred ways to answer this question but to you that are and have been far into the CTD's for a while what kind of upgrades would be best to help improve mpg's? I've got gauges on the way (seems to be the overall first step) before upgrades.

Trying to keep it relatively simple.

Thanks for the help and advise.

Adding higher pressure to your tires is probably the easiest way to gain some mileage. Then, perhaps the addition of Bosch RV275 injectors will gain you more horsepower while actually giving you better fuel mileage (better atomization). Finally, you might want to try a TTPM and run it on setting 1 (timing advance only). I'm going to try this one day but for now I'm having too much fun on setting 3. :D

P. S. Are you running an auto or a manual transmission?

best way is to drive slower, it is that simple. Keep the engine in the 1600-1800 rpm range, and avoid sudden speed changes. Other then the driving style changes, Improved air flow both on the intake and exhaust side will help. For the intake, larger and better air filter design as well as cool intake air are the main benefactors. For the exhaust, larger more free-flowing exhaust system as well as a better, higher flowing turbo housing. The rest would be aero changes to the truck, a front air dam with the four corners being lowered would help. As would a bed cover or wind deflector when towing. The truck is not exactly an aerodynamic wonder, it flows about as well as a brick. So there is no much you could do, tucking in tight behind another large vehicle would help. Good luck
