pull behind

Ball Mount Height

Been running stock size 265- 17 Michelins and getting 50-60k on them.
Only problem with them is mud and no traction and I have to go into 4 w d and lock the hubs.
In season I pull my 14,000+ lb 5er so I am looking for a little more traction tire that will wear well .
I don`t expect to get the long wear time , But am willing to compromise some.
What rubber are you running and TOWING with
Thanks
.

ALOT of people, myself included, run and like the Toyo Open Country AT2 in a 285/75/17 E

That being said, do NOT expect to get more then 35k from them, or really ANY other oversized tire.

The new Cooper XLTs come with a treadwear warranty. I’ve only got a few thousand miles on mine but they do well in mud and snow, and they take my 9 ton gn well. They’re reasonably quiet and ride well.

Take a look at the Firestone Destination AT. I'm getting well over 40K per set in mixed driving and lots of towing. Excellent traction tire in the snow and pretty decent off road.

I am also seeing decent treadwear on other people's Firestone Destination tires. But I worked at a tire store during the Firestone 500 disaster in the Seventies. Then we lost some neighborhood kids to a rollover caused by a f-stone tire during the Ford Explorer mess. So the thought of putting Firestone tires on my own vehicles is really chilling, when I could buy a set of perfectly good secondhand retreads instead. :D

I realize that it is hard to break old stereotypes, but the other side of the Firestone scandals is that they have emerged as having some of the highest rated tires in the industry in many segments. It appears, at least for now, that they have really tightened their quality control and are producing some darn good products.

Misread the original post. Tried to totally erase, but couldn't. Please excuse

Ford's recommended psi was 26# or something in order to lower the vehicle's center of gravity after so many rollovers. The tires got hot and failed. The next generation had a wider track, longer body and lower stance.

I’m no Firestone fan but it’s hard to blame the tire when it’s under inflated And installed on a vehicle that handles like an overloaded log truck.

I don't have any problems with the Firestone tires. Have them on my 2500, a Grand Cherokee and a past small car. If there was any complaint I estimate only 40k miles (currently only have 20k miles) from the truck tires otherwise I really like the Firestone Transforce AT tires.
