I just had the vacuum pump go south on my 03 Dually with NV5600. The only thing this pump does is operate the Jake brake. I checked prices from 2 dealers, one was $695. 00 and the other $750. 00. This was just for the pump itself, nothing else. I ordered one from Cummins and had it installed in 25 minutes myself and it cost me $88. 10. It even comes with a new pulley already attached. I think this is far over and above price gouging!!

Do it yourself and save $800. 00. Thanks for nothing D/C!!!!)  #@$%!

All you guys get good treatment at the Cummins dealer, mine charged me $2500 for a VP44, and smiled all the way.

Sounds like TWO DIFFERANT part numbers and TWO differant parts. I'd CHECK part numbers of all three quotes. The differance bewteen Cummins store and D. C. would be differant I just would not think that BIG of a spread on the same part.

What happens alot is that a part may not be available at the dodge dealer, but you can buy a larger assembly that happens to have the part you need. (like the FCA on the Cp3, Dodge was warrantying full Cp3's just for a $89 fuel control actuator)

But cummins can get the actual part and not need to buy the entire assembly, etc

THe dealer should have been more forthcoming with that info if that was the case though.

I read all of these posts about the intelligence levels of dealer employees. It still amazing me that you guys actually trust these morons to order you parts and get service. These people have absoulte zero training and dont know anything about cars. Do you actually think they go to weekely tranning sessions and get informed on updates let alone know what a diesel engine is. All they do is punch info into a computer and the computer tells them what to do. Its just like the parts people at CSK parts stores. Do your self a HUGE service and never go to the dealer unless you have to.

Sorry to hijack, but is that an easy part to replace. Someone suggested my issue may be the FCA, but I haven't had it checked out yet.

Good news is now that is a fully servicable parts. You dont need to buy a full CP3 anymore :)

I just had a turbo fialure on my truck ( leaking oil ) and they watned $1774 for a replacement stock turbo, I found a brand new in the box exact replacement for $910. It pays to shop around.

Sometimes a failure is a blessing in disguise, you can also think about doing an upgrade or mod for the same kind of $$$'s. In my 40+ years of vehicles and parts experiences, I have seen lots and lots of people getting ripped off buying whole assemblies rather than just the part they needed. And YES, most of the parts guys are not mechanics and are not aware of anything but what the computer tells them.
