Attention: TDR Forum Junkies hey I just want to give yal a big heads up. theres a user on ebay who is selling supposedly Modded 48RE transmissions. having delt with so much 48RE failures I have been in them quite a bit for one truck. This ebay user claims to be upgrading 48RE by adding more clutches to each clutch pack. Well i am here to tell you he is full of crap. He claims he pretty much says he upgraded to 6 clutches in the OD unit. my truck back in the day had a brand new OD unit from dodge installed before i bought my truck used. It already had 6 clutches in th OD unit which has never been enough. Not to mention all the other areas of the top of my head (i go by what i see, not memory) seem to have the stock number of clutches. Somebody may find him on ebay and ask him if he added to all the clutch packs "did he machine the case to add a 2nd band to the rear drum and a 2nd band to the front drum or did he split two good aftermarket bands to like some do to increase holding capacity, like many building extreme duty 48RE's do?". no the aftermarket isnt splitting the bands but see if you can trip him up. afterall he is only one of the many misrepresenting the dodge diesel owners. he sells his 48RE's on EBAY painted black.
I am posting this only to inform fellow tdr members that you always dont get what you paid for even if you spend alot shop around and think you found a good deal a possibly reputable shop. Please dont ask me on this thread what I ever did with my 3400 mile HTS transmission on this thread. I will make it short and sweet to you and any questions go to the other thread i posted on that subject. HTS offered me a replacement transmission for free and at that was willing to take my old one in pieces. I declined the offer for numerous reasons, some related to HTS, some related to the installer, some related to a number of other micelaneous expenses not covered. As far as my burnt destroyed 48RE It has be modded to live slightly longer on death row and put back in the truck for 2 weeks or so until. The decision weather or not I will rebuild my stock 48re and scrap metal the HTS 48re or go another way will be determined later this afternoon. regardless HTS barely "3 speed" will be coming back out and be scraped. But that is all i am willing to say for the HTS in this thread the other is where the real kaos is. this thread is just a warning to those buying trannies on ebay.
