I am considering a set of BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO Size: LT295/75R16 tire on my 2002 2500 SWB. I currently have the Walmart Liberator AT 285/75R16's on the truck but they are about worn out with about 46,000 miles. They have been very good tire for the most part but I go off road a lot and they perform poorly in mud and are prone to being cut by sharp rocks. Have had two flat tires due to tire cuts through the tread.

I would appreciate any comment or feedback from anyone who has this tire mounted on their truck especially with respect on how they perform off road in mud and any problems such as balance or wear. My understanding is that this is the largest size tire that will fit on this truck and not rub the lower control arm or fender wells. They seem to have very good feedback comments on a number of the tire sale websites but wanted some feedback from folks with the cummins diesel pickups. Thanks!

I tried a half a dozen different word strings in the site search feature and it either rejects it citing it does not accept less than 3 letters or could not find any information.

I can't really respond to questions on off roading as I live in the suburbs of Seattle but... . I have been running them for for about 23 months & am impressed with their wear. I have 25k miles on mine & their wearing better than the last set of Toyos I ran.

My truck is an auto with 3. 54 gears & their a little tall to pull with so this weekend I'm going to 4. 10s. Seem to be a good tire but the amount of off-roading I've done isn't going to answer your question... . Sorry.

I tried a set a few years ago and ran the proper inflation, and was lucky to get 36000 miles out of them. I now run peerless force 4 and I get 62000 miles out of them.

I had a set of General Grabber AT2's LT295/75/16. They were excellent tires, lot's of siping for wet and snow conditions. They lasted quite a while considering how nice and soft they were. If you got 46k out of the Walmarts, you'll get alot more out of these. They were also much cheaper than BFG's. I bought them from Sears.

I currently have the Toyo M55 tire, and like them a bunch. The rubber is not soft, so the milage from my reasearch should be good. A very hard tire to destroy. I have used BFG AT tires on a different truck and liked them well too. I had 60,000 on them when I sold that truck, but it was a gasser. They worked well in all road/off road conditions, although in the gumbo mud they seem to turn into slicks. Ken

Mr Ken, whats Gumbo Mud?

I have a set of what you are asking about, I love them and they do not rub @ all and I also have the SkyJacker lvl'ing kit.

I had a set on the 01. Very good tires. I drove about 8+ miles a day, 4 days a week on gravel mountain roads plus 2, 75 mile trips all gravel and got 42,000 out of them. Very good for those conditions. I have some General AT2 Grapplers now and they perform well but are not going to get the same mileage so I'll be going back to the BFG next. The 295s are a good size also. Not too big, but big enough.

I looked into those when I bought my 285's. In a BFG ATKO the small size difference (between 285 & 295) wasn't worth the $20 a tire. JMO

KAlder,

Are your running the 285 Load Range E tires on 6. 5" rims? If so how are they wearing and what pressure are you running them at?

Thanks,

Doug

Doug- they are on 16x8 wheels. Don't know what pressure, I do need to check that though- cause my truck is more of a grocery getter, and tire shops like to just inflate to max recommmended. Seem to be wearing well, still have the little rubber tits on the tread- just put the tires on in Dec. They are Load Range "E".

I've got a set of 285's that I use as snow tires (Nov-Apr). I have 6 winters and 54,000 miles on them and they should last me another couple of winters.

Good snow traction (average accumulation in my area is 200"/year).
