Musta been a Cummins (joke)

embarrassing

While on a trip to Bristol Tn. last weekend i was looking the truck over in our hotel parking-lot and was surprised to see the steel belts on my tires. I went to a Bfgoodriche dealer in Johnson city and he came out, looked over the tires and said yep, they are bad and you need to have them replaced. He also said this was not the first set that he had seen go bad. He said they were all in size 285/75-16. The point of this story is if you run this size go and look for small slits between the outer lugs about 1 inch in from the sidewall. They are at the edge of the steel belts.

I have had 4 sets of BF Goodrich AT tires and all came apart at the tread. I had them on a '75 CJ-5, '79 Cherokee, and a 98 3500 4x4, and I will never buy another set. BF Goodrich got out of the tire buisness back in '86, I believe. I also heard that Michelin took over. At the same time Michelin came out with a new way to retread tires that is supposed to be "better than new". This was a long time ago and it may have all change by now, But I had the problem from 1993 to 1999. If I am wrong, sorry, but this is from what I found out back in 1999 from the internet and phone calls, and talking to tire dealers in Vegas. Please advise me if I am mistaken as I am interisted in to the truth. On my 76 CJ-5 I have BF Goodrich MT's and love them. I now have Pathfinder all terrain on the 3500, and while the are cheep they ride better and the pattern is close to the BFG's. they still need rotated often, they will do til I get the 19. 5's.

The tires that were on my truck were bought new may of 2000 and had 22,000 miles on them. The local dealer that replaced them said that michelin is the hardest tire maker to deal with. ( They never make mistakes ).
