I agree with you Deezul it doesn't get much hotter under the hood than towing 13,000 lbs around Florida in the summer. Using a remote temp system we use to troubleshoot a/c systems I checked temps inside my BHAF and Megacannon. The BHaf had temps 50-60 degrees higher when sitting still but once trucks started moving at 25mph or faster internal temps (inside filters)were the same. Only reason I am changing filter from BHAF to megacannon on my 99 (already on my 96) is that I don't want to pay $44 every 6 months and one of those plastic wrap food covers with the elastic edge band cover the Mega when you want to clean up the engine compartment. :D

I live in 29 Palms,CA. It does get much hotter here. Say 120* in July through September. I did not ever test the MegaCannon in the summer heat but the test I did was an EGT guage and I ran up the same grade hauling 5 horses from a stop to 65 mph. I first did it with the BHAF with mallory mount and I topped out at 1350*. Then I put in the stock airbox with a K&N and tried it again. I could not top 1200*. That was WOT! Under hood temps do not make a difference much. 50* more is nothing when you can peg 1500* anytime. Now, 150* to 200* is a huge difference in EGT reduction. BHAF does not flow as well as it has been said to. I have a Stainless Steel mount that is sitting on the bench. It goes with the BHAF. I now run the AFE mega cannon and I have a hard time ever hitting 1200* hauling the horses or hay. That is with the drag comp on 1x5. Empty, on level 5x5 my max temps are 1450*. WOT 110 mph.

K&N

I love my BHAF. The K&N I have run in the past is in the TRASH where it belongs! Beware here guys the K&N does not meet the minimum particle size requirement per Cummins. I'm running the BHAF with a heat shield and find that it is comparable to the K&N re-0880 in terms of egt reduction. Besides what a pain in the rump to clean, then wait for it to dry and re-oil the K&N. I get the BHAF for $33. 00 at the local Peterbuilt shop. Blow it from the inside out with compressed air every few months and replace it once a year.

The BHAF suck, and i don't meen air. If u want to buy a filter buy a K&N or AFE drop in air filter, or if u really want to pull air get a AFE mega Cannon, or if u want cool air get a Scotty II, just don't get those worthless BHAF.

The reason I took off the K&N is because the box didn't seal very well. It was letting some dirt through. The filter itself was working great. Another reason I didn't really like the factory box was because the when I installed the K&N, the foam prefilter on the Fram filter that came in the truck when I bought it, was soaked with water from the rain the day I test drove the truck.

R. ebel- what was the part # from Pete? Is it similar/same as the 2790 from NAPA? They charged me $50 for mine. That price sounds alot better.

BHAF

bmoeller, Fleetguard AH19037. These airfilter threads are getting to be as entertaining as an oil or transmission thread;)

I don't really have an opinion on air filters b/c I'm mostly stock. But... Do any of those members who are so passionately arguing against the BHAF sell a competing brand? Hmmmm... Just curious.

From the Show-Me state

I've done more experimenting then I should admit, with air filters and cool air/ram air systems. I have not found the large claims or gains in egt, smoke or power that other members/vendors have. A good heat shield and exhaust blanket will keep underhood temps with in a couple of degree of ambient (while moving). No egt gain if no cool air gain. The BHAF doesn't flow as much as some of the cotton gauze filters but I won the last dyno day (534hp) with a dirty BHAF while most of the other CTD's removed their K&N or etc to dyno. The dyno operator confirmed what I've found, maybe one or two horsepower gain from removal. Some of you saw my dual filter setup at Muncie last year. I ran a large cylinder/style K&N joined with a new BHAF by a "Y" (removed passenger side battery to fit). Run either or both, no difference in hp on Saturday or no egt difference on the drag strip on Sunday. I did pipe ram air from under the bumper.

One size upgrade on a turbo is only good for a egt gain of ~150 degree or so, I guess you could say that I'm from Missouri :D :D :).
