i now have k&n filter that i have not installed yet. i was reading that these are a bad things for our diesels. so i think i am gonna get a bhaf. can i get one at napa or carquest?and what is the part#?what do you guys think?thanks

I agree, good idea to not use the K&N. I started using an Amsoil dry cleanable filter a few months ago and my lastest oil sample shows it's keeping the dirt out. Below are BHAF numbers.

I agree that the BHAF is the way to go. If you shop around, you can get it for a little over $30 and it takes less than 10 minutes to install. I would also recommend getting an outerwears cover for it. Just call them(they have a website that you can find with google), and tell them you have a dodge with a BHAF and they will know which prefilter you need.

You will notice that you can hear your turbo more after this mod. Otherwise, I doubt you will notice much change.

yup ditch the K&N, i used it for about 3 months, and was very unhappy to see the amount of dirt it let into the engine, went and got the AFE PG7 stage 2 system, and love it, i just purchased the PG7 mega cannon filter for it to try and get even more air into my HTT 66/14. the BHAF will do you more than good for you setup. good luck.

Don't know how you wash any of the washable filters without getting dirt on the inside. When the bhaf gets dirty I through it away and put on a new one.

Where would I get one of these BHAF Air filters? Any ideas?

If you look above, cumminspower98 gave a list of part numbers for it. There are several places that you can get them including napa, cummins, a lot of truck stores, and a whole bunch of places online. There is a fair amount of price variability so you may want to call around before you go driving.

if you search around here you can find a couple places that sell them cheep, i can't remember the name but the place i ordered mine from shipped it to my door for half of what napa was selling it for, i wanna say it was something like fleetfilter.com or something close to it

Fleetfilter.com is a NAPA owned and run website. They`re 37. 43 + ship.

I run up to my local Napa and get them for the same price ,but there is state tax on it .

k & n

I am not a spokesman for K and n but where did all this aint no good stuff come from ? I have used this filter for the last 600,000 miles, the first 200 was stock cheapies from auto zone and others . I guess when I reach 1 mil

on the original motor I might consider a change. Stormy

Well when you see dirt in your intake and or get high silicon numbers in your oil analysis you make a change. I had 51 ppm silicon which came right down after removing the K&N. Many people have had the same experience. They seem to work for some and others not. Some of it may have to do with where you live. I live out in the dry dusty west. If you are happy with the filter and it's working for you then great. I just don't trust them anymore.

looks like we've hit the motherload:eek:

I'll second the Amsoil "BHAF". Their Nanofiber material is made by Donaldson, and they are supposed to be very efficient at filtering while allowing more airflow than the paper BHAF. Do a search on the terms +Amsoil +nanofiber +4510 to find some more discussion.

And no, I'm not an Amsoil dealer, just a convinced consumer . . . ;)

RVPILOT,

I live here at the end of the world and when it gets cold those K & N's are only good for paperweights. When it gets cold out the oil in the filter gets "less flowable?" and the cold air just punches through the oil leaving a hole and the oil will not fill back in. Thus, the dirt in the intake box. No thanks, the stock filters are better than that.

I'm going to have to log a negative finding with the K&N also. I've always been a devout customer and used them on my gassers. So when I bought my truck that was the first thing I put on. I read about the poor findings other users were experiencing and frankly figured they weren't installing them correctly. Well in the first few thousand miles I noticed a very fine film of dust on the intake tube. So I cleaned the tube out and tried again. 13,000 miles later since the filter was installed and I'm still seeing poor performance. I also have a Frantz filter. Oil stays a clean caramel color longer. I don't need an oil analysis to tell me it's working. I'm afraid the K&N's gotta go... What a disappointment.
