About the BHAF

I purchased the BHAF for my truck I had the K&N in the stock box I ran it for a week and I actually got better gas mileage from the K&N than the BHAF so I switched back I went to a speed shop and they had a demonstration basically a tube with a golf ball in a tube and a vaccuum and with the stock air filter it would hardly draw the golf ball up the tube and with a K&N it almost reached the top of the tube it was amazing the diff in airflow!!!!!!

I know everyone has their own opinion, so here is mine (I've given this opinion several times in the last year or so). I have had a K&N filter, both the air box model and then the RE0880, in my truck for 150,000 of it's 193,000 miles. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never had any problems. As a mater of fact, everytime I check my turbo there has never been a sign of oil or dust. The silencer ring is so dry it shows signs that corrosion is trying to start!!! I really don't understand all the parinoia (sp?).

So maybe its just my dumb luck to have two different K&N filters and have no problems. I plan on keeping my truck another 150,000 miles plus and increasing the power some more (370s or DD3s next) I'll keep the K&N untill I've added too much fuel and need an even larger turbo and filter.

How many of you honestly plan on keeping your truck longer than 100,000 miles, 200,000 miles, or 400,000 miles? If you don't, then why are you afraid of a proven product?

Talked too long, but I get upset everytime this subject comes up, just like the discussion (arguement) over synthetic oil vs. non-synthetic. (My truck has run on Rotella and I haven't had a lick of problems with the engine (except I need more power!)).

Fleetguard Marine

Those who are interested in the BHAF but are concerned with collapses, go for the Marine version. It has the wire mesh inside as well and is supposed to filter just as well (same micron and flow rating). These are Fleetguard numbers and the 8” long = AH19002 and the 10”=AH19004.

The mega cannon still draws air from the engine compartment.

Its not the solution to a cooler air charge in warm temps.

It may be part of the problem for that matter.

We need a filter that will draw air from somewhere besides the engine compartment. The factory air box does not do it. Why use one that does?

Granted the factory air box is not great for higher HP trucks, but hot engine air isnt either.

The physcotty is good, but I dont want to drill a hole in the cowel.

We need something different, something innovative.

Hot air under the hood......

I stuck a temp probe by the turbo side of the BHAF. This was one of those that would read inside and outside measurements. The only time I saw a problem with temperature by the filter was standing still. It would get pretty hot at that point. Once moving the difference from outside air temps were ± 2° so I would think that the fresh air problem isn't all we make it out to be. Now I'm talking driving speed not getting up there. But then a ram air or such wouldn't be all that functional until you had some speed going also.

I like my BHAF and do not worry about collapse. I do not dislike K&N's as I have one on my Durango which often goes into the dusty desert. Had the BHAF not come along I would have left the K&N in my truck. Lower EGT's and slightly more boost was all it took to sell me on the BHAF though. We all have our favorites, and which is better only depends on which you like best.

Good job Big, I was thinking of doing the same thing. Maybe you can try puting the probe inside the filter and see what the diff is from outside temp.

Wanted to...........

But the probe didn't seem secure enough. Actually wanted to put it right before the intake horn to see what the intake temps would be. Thats where it would count the most. Might still try if I find a way to secure it better.

Speaking of the devil......

Just recieved my oil report. All reading are well below what they term universal averages. I guess Silicon would be the one concerning air filtration and that's at 4 with the average being at 15.

Some of their comments,

Air and oil filtration were functioning normally... ... ... Nice wearing engine!!

Ah come on Don, it only hurts for a little while.
