I got a letter in the mail from the Texas Clean Air Board saying that on June 19 a citizen (citizen?)observed my truck emitting "excessive exhaust smoke" on IH 35 in Austin. "My compliance in this matter is voluntary but I should have my vehicle checked". Dont laugh, the next step is they will send ATF & EPA thugs to our homes to check our emissions after a good green citizen decides that our truck smokes too much. I am stock except for an EZ. This is a wake up call for us all. Phoenix, AZ already had some device to photographically measure your exhaust emissions operating in Scottsdale when we moved three years ago.

This is for real here in Phoenix and surrounding area. They call them smog dogs for real!!! I don't know of any diesel getting caught by these things but possible. :(

I think it's time to throw Austin out of Texas- too many liberals who can't wait to tell us how to run our own lives. Gig 'em!

Hey TD, sounds like your not emitting enough smoke if some citizen was able to read the plate on the back of your truck. Maybe it's time for injectors.

What will they think of next? Good thing none of them tree huggers were at Muncie this year :D or they may have had to cut down a bunch more trees to send out all of the notices

There was a news story on the news the other night that told about a road rage web site that you can send the plate number of someone who did something stupid on the road. The idea was to deter people from giving others the finger, or worse, when something goes wrong.

The web site takes the information you send and writes a letter to the offender, suggesting proper highway use and etiquette.

Go to www.leftlanelosers.com for more information.

For us, I'd consider a smoke warning from these guys a trophy :) The guy with the most "Smoke Letters" would be king of the BOMB squad. LOL

Boy Doc, we must have ESP or something! TD - Doc rode with me on a long drive on thursday and mentioned the leftlanelosers.com site and the first thing I thought of was people using it to report excessive smoke!! Doc had already thought of that too! Oasis is right on Muncie, although I don't think they needed anyone to report it, I'm sure that the event was recorded on a satellite somewhere for increased soot levels! I was half expecting to hear that they were reporting it on the weather channel - like they do forrest fires!! :D

We have a huge bridge here... Tacoma Narrows Bridge. I travel it about once a year. (hand sweats, queazy feelings!)

They took a picture of my license plate, tracked me down, and sent me a letter asking advice on building a new bridge, adding on, charging a toll, etc. I called them and explained I don't care cause I only use it once a year. They kept sending the questions, I called once more. I still get the questions via surveys, etc. Geez!

Rob Hansen, do what I do to ALL my unwanted junk mail, credit card offers, sweepstakes, etc. Use the supplied post paid envelope, stuff extra paper, other junk mail, 10 pennies ( that will cost them almost $2 in postage) and send it back to them. You will get REMOVED from junk mail lists real fast. !!:D :D :D :D :D

Texas,

I love that junk mail idea... I can't wait to try it!!

By the way, the mobil "smog dogs" in the metro Phoenix area were decommissioned at least a year ago (yes, I got tagged once before I wised up ). The stupid governor finally realized they did absolutely nothing to improve air quality, and were very easy to defeat. In fact, they actually increased air pollution because each unit burned gasoline all day to run a portable generator to power the sensors and cameras. Talk about politicians having their head so far up their a$$, they could clearly see the backs of their teeth!

Texas, I've had a similar idea, but I don't know if it would work. I've been tempted to take that mail and dump it back in the box at the post office. Would that metered mail get charged again? It might keep coming back to my house, but atleast I'd have the satisfaction that those who sent the junk would get charged for it over and over again. :)

I'm going to start doing it your way though, it sounds like more fun.

Doc

Yeah, I saw an article in a local paper recently giving a 1(800) # to the TNRCC (Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission - our version of the EPA) for people to report vehicles that smoked excessively. They did define excessively as over 10 seconds in duration. I personally don't have alot of problems with that. I hate getting stuck behind a car that is burning as much oil (motor oil, not diesel for all you wise guys :D) as gas.

I'm pretty heavily bombed, and I don't think mine will smoke any more than 5-6 seconds.

Remember all the yuppies that you give a "Smoke-Show" to at traffic lights? They could be some politician's wife, staff member, friend... ..... whatever, and could come back to haunt us all.

The newest emission system coming out will have the ability to check your engine control computer systems for failure codes as you drive by it. This newest system is OBD3. This systems is can be used for a whole lot more. This technology is scary!!!!!

I love that idea... I WILL try it out! Thanks... hehehe.

Thet had a commercial on alll the radio stations in Iowa last week with a new 800 number for the DNR to turn in excessive smokers. Same thing; ya' get a letter saying "fix your junk, You'll get better mileage. " Hey WierCummin, that was a great post :D ... T

You know, we used to wonder why the folks under nazi rule would turn in their neighbors for being "suspicious". No no, stay with me here. I watched a deal about that awhile back on the History channel or something. Anyway, folks would turn their neighbors in for anything they could think of that might remotely be deemed "suspicious". They had some of the actual reports and the stuff in there borderlined on the rediculous, if only the consequences weren't so deadly serious. They asked the people who did this kinda stuff, basically, "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?" Almost all of them were like, "Hey, we were bing good citizens. " I guess what I'm getting at is that people should wake up to where we're heading when the government uses it's own citizens to rat out other citizens for petty stuff, just so the government can put that person's name in a folder and start keeping track of them. :( I don't know, am I the only one who sees this stuff?
