About three days ago i was driving down the road in my '99 ctd and all at once it just died, i pulled off the road and it sounded like it was running on 3 cyl's. i got it back to my work and started checking things out. I don't have any water in the fuel good fuel press. and volume. elec. connections on back of inj. pump are good. everybody i've talked to so far has said the same thing, Inj. pump. i'm a mechanic myself and I can't hardly think the inj. pump would go just like that no warning or nothin. Can anybody be of any help? I just want to make sure it's the pump before i put all that money into it.

I replaced the ckp sen. about 6 mos. ago don't think it's that i forgot to mention i'm getting 3 codes out of it all 3 are for the pump. today i checked the simple stupid stuff like the fuel filter and line form filter to the VP and as my luck would have it all are ok. guess it's time to bite the bullet

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge or a warning light?

What fuel pump are you running? Stock (carter), FASS, RASP or modded stock.....

Just wondering if you saw anything funny before it took a dump... ...

curious... .

i don't have a press. guage so i couldn't see anything funny (do to lack of better words because there's nohting "funny" about it. ha ha) when i got the truck it had around 68,000 on it. now almost 18mos. later it has almost 93,000 and i've never had to put a lift pump on. but it looks like the stock lift pump was replaced within the past few years. the only thing i've had to do is replace the crank sensor. and a couple other things not engine related. after it stopped on me one of the first thins i did was check fuel press. and had a little over 10psi. however if the lift pump was replaced before how far did the previous owner drive it before it was replaced. Sort of off subject but a few mos. ago we had a 01 friegtliner w/ a 5. 9 ISB towed into our shop b/c it would run for about 10 sec. and shut off. Thanks to what i've read on TDR i was able to find a bad lift pump. my only question on that would be do the dodge pickups show the same symptoms when th lift pumps go bad on them??

Not always, they can run with a bad lift pump just not to long :-laf :-laf

Sounds like your VP is gone according to your codes. :( :(

I had good fuel presurewhen mine went south, and it had given no warning I took off from a light went 1/3 mile started running real bad skipping then it went to idle with no throttle responce (SP) at all once it stalled it did not restart untill I replaced the pump... George

That's almost exactly what happened to me only mine will on about 3 cyl. if i unhook the pre-heater and give her a shot of go-go juice (either).

I am not at work so I'm going on memory. Your codes are for a bad PSG/Fueling solenoid. If you want I can check at work and verify your problem. Thanks, Brady 1-800-955-0476
