In April and May, a couple of large and awesome steam locomotives are going to power two separate trips across Washington state. These are open to the public, which is the first time BNSF has allowed steam operations for the public on their tracks in a VERY long time.

In April the SP&S #700 will operate between Portland Oregon and Spokane, Washington:

April 20: Portland-->Pasco
April 21: Pasco-->Spokane
April 22: Spokane-->Pasco
April 23: Pasco-->Portland

If you are interested in going you must act fast because it is close to being sold out.
Click here for more info: SP&S Excursion Details

Then in May it has just been announced that the Southern Pacific #4449 will run a loop from Portland to Pasco Wa, then on to Yakima, Cle Elum, Stampede Pass, Auburn, and back to Portland, on May 26th and 27th. This is the one I must go on, it is a VERY scenic route. Ticket prices are not quite finalized, but you must call (503)244-4449 for info/tickets.
