Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Bigger Fuel Lines

At what power level should you upsize the fuel lines? I have looked at "Big Line Kits" from several different retailers and prices ranging from around $125. 00 to $300. 00. What's the difference? The photos of the kits I have seen don't show much.



I have been told that the fuel lines from the tank to my fuel filter are 1/2" & after fuel filter they are 3/8". I have also been told that the banjo fittings need to be changed out to bigger orifices.

I've been waiting for that same info, but you get soooo many different responses. I purchased the fuel line kit without banjos, all radius bend fittings. I haven't installed it yet, but getting rid of the banjos can't be bad... I'm interested in replacement pumps, but I haven't felt the need to spend $500+ for FASS or Preporator or ?

Typically, the stock fuel system seems to run out of juice at around 350rwhp. Upgrading to a true 3/8" line with AN style fittings will get you another 5-6psi at that point.



That seems to be good until you get to the 425rwhp range, where a pusher is required.



3/8" fuel lines will support 700rwhp without a problem.

I was in the same boat as you guys untill about 3 weeks ago. I estimate I am making about 450+HP and still had the stock fuel delivery. So what I did first was to replace all the stock lines and banjo's with -6AN fittings and stainless braided hose from the tank to the VP44. I asked the same question back then and got a list of parts needed from a couple of guys. You can get all you need from summit racing or I found the best prices on the AN fittings from http://www.racepartsolutions.com Part of my upgrade was adding a fuel pressure gauge at the same time. I now know that my pressure is not very good so I am going to replace the lift pump with a Holley Blue fuel pump mounted down near the tank. You should be able to do all this for about $250 If you need a parts list PM me and I will send it to you.

Did you use mechanical fuel gauge or the "unreliable" electric set up?

I used a mechanical gauge with an isolator. And what a pain in the butt it was to install. It was the most difficult thing I have done to the truck so far.

I have been e-mailing Autometer about fuel pressure gauges & they are supposed to release a full sweep electric 0-30 PSI gauge that is compatible with diesel fuel in November.



According to Autometer, none of their current fuel pressure gauges are diesel fuel compatible.
