Welding question

Hey guys:

I have a John Deere 4020 with the pencil injectors and am going to "BOMB" it. I'm going to install a turbo and want to get some bigger injectors. It seems to me that the only thing I can get done to them is lasering, which is $100-$150/injector. Thats a pretty steep price for all the bigger those lines are. I bought the bigger ones for my truck for $285 brand new with no core.

What do you guys recommend?

Thanks,

John

Probably all you would need to do is turn th pump up. From what I hear you probably dont want to go much over 130 hp. I f you pulll heavy loads , such as tillage, dont use bigger equipment than you did before, because that will put more stress on the drivetrain, just work in a higher gear. I am not familiar, with john deere injectors, but there are alot of John deere tractor pullers out ther that are. Sometimes projects like these end up just costing you money to tear up a classic tractor. I had a cousin that did this to an international.

If you're planning on using the 4020 for farming the best way to jack up your hp is to buy a bigger tractor. They are engineered for the hp they come with, not choked down like our Cummins engines are in the Dodge application.

My Dad worked for a Deere dealer about '67 to '72, worked on a lot of 4020's, he said when they turned up/ turbocharged the 4020s they had overheating problems. He said the ones he worked with would basically run in the same gear but pull through the hard spots much better.

4020 Turbo-ing

Change to a dry element aie filter, the turbo will suck dirt through the oil bath. speaking fron expirience, cost an overhaul.
