Does anyone know what the biggest tire size is that will fit on a 2001 4X4 3/4 ton with 2" front leveling blocks without rubbing? My tires are just about toast and I am currently shopping around. FWIW I've gotten almost 38,000 miles out of my BFG All Terrains.

Thanks for the advice- Gary Mc

My truck doesn't have a levelling kit (yet anyways)... I ran 285/75R16 Sport King AT's for a while with no rub anywhere. I'm now running 315/75R16 Wild Spirit DTX's-they rub the control arms on tight turns but don't rub anywhere else in the wheelwell. I know there's a 305/75R16 in some brands-but I haven't tried them yet.

I'm running 285 BFG A/Ts and have had no rubbing. In the past folks have posted that they run 315 BFG A/Ts without any trouble.

I am planning on running 315s when I wear out this set I have now. I have the tires/wheels (265s) that came with the truck stacked in a corner in my barn. If/when I get the 315s then I will putting stock tires on when I tow the 5er so I don't mess up my height for the camper.

See Ya

Chris

For the record I currently have 295/75 R16 BFG All Terrains on the truck.

Jason, how bad do your 315's rub? Do they rub in all tight turns? How are the off-road, do they rub when the springs compress?

Maybe some wheel spacers are in order when I put the big meats on...

Thanks- Gary Mc

Rubbing with my 315's

I haven't deliberately crossed my truck up in the backcountry or anything-but I have 2 wells on my east run that require me to crawl back in the hills to check. It's pretty rough terrain-you're bouncing around all the time as you cut back and forth on the trail. I still haven't been able to make them touch anything in the wheelwell or wheel opening other than the control arms. It is sprung fairly stiff-046/039 combo so maybe it rides a little higher in front than some (I don't think so though). My truck has Putco SS running boards-so the flaps take away some wheelwell room. It's also a Sport-and I think the Sport bumper actually comes back closer to the tire than the standard one-although I've never measured to see for sure. So I think my truck is pretty much the worst-case scenario as far as fitment-and so far it passes with flying colors! But it is tight-definitely wouldn't want to go any bigger.

The rubbing on the control arms occurs in the last 1/3-1/4 turn of the steering wheel each direction. It's pretty pronounced on my truck due to the aggressive tires-if you were running all-terrains the growl probably wouldn't be as loud. I thought about a small spacer to move the wheel out-but I suspect I'd be rubbing in the wheelwells then. If you don't have running boards you may be able to get away with it-I may try it myself down the road just for curiosity.

Wild Spirit Tires

Hey Jason:

How much were the Wild Spirit tires in 315? Where did you get them? Could you post a photo or two? TIA, dp

I ran 35x12. 50x16. 5's without rubbing and 3" lift on 16. 5x9. 75 rims. I also ran 35x16x16. 5 boggers with a little rub while turned to the lock.

Yeah the 315's fit fine on the stock 16x8 alloy rims-but I don't think you'd want to mount them on anything skinnier than that.

I'll have to try to get a pic of the tread pattern-they're not as aggressive as a true mud-terrain but more aggressive than an all-terrain. Voids between the blocks are around 1/2" wide or so-kind of an "X" pattern. Hard for me to describe-I'll get a pic and post it here. I got them through my brother at the local Chrysler dealer-he deals with a wholesale tire outfit in the city. I think they cost around the $200 CDN mark each-which is a damn sight cheaper than what I was quoted for BFG AT's (around $320 + install at a local tire dealer). They are full road hazard warrantied-made by Sigma I think. I'll see what else I can dig up on them.
