I need a new steering stabilizer for the 08. 5 steering gear on my 2005.

The oem Mopar "shock", lasted only 3 years despite running only slightly larger then stock tires (285/75/17).

Does anyone have positive or negative things to say about the Bilstein 5100 stabilizer/shock as a replacement for the Mopar stabilizer in terms of performance AND longevity?

It certainly IS affordable from Genos and is also plug n' play.

I also like and use Bilstein 5100 shocks, but was curious about the opinion of anyone who is ACTUALLY running one, not that others can't chime in...

TIA

Put one on my wife's '04 about a year ago. No problems that I am aware of. I can say one thing is that the finish on it will last WAY longer than any of the ones I've put on mine. I will be putting one on mine when it's due to be changed.

When I was running AT's my 2. 0 Fox ss had to be deflated to 80# in order to kill the mild left drift. The pressurized shocks want to expand, thus pushing the steering to the left.

I'm running Toyo MT's now which do to their inherent right pull, requires 150# to cancel that out.

I don't know what the basic Bilstein is inflated to but the 5100's are non-adjustable.

How did you know it was bad?

Dealer was checking the whole front end for worn parts under my extended warranty. They are going to replace it under the warranty, but since the oem did not last too more then 4 years, I am likely going to purchase an aftermarket that will hopefully last longer.

If you disconnect one end and run the stabilizer shaft in and out and feel an area where it pushes more easily, then it needs replacing. I have read somewhere that they tend to wear in the center section more since that is where they ride most of the time.

Can't decide between the Bilstein 5100 from enos or the 7100 from Carli... though leaning towards the 5100 right now.

((On a side note, they ARE going to replace the steering box AND the PS pump with the newer, stronger upgrade parts under warranty.

$700 for the box and $1295 for the pump kit at full retail. :eek:Oo. ))

I installed a 5100 3 weeks ago. A pickle fork and a 3# hammer worked wonders removing the old one. I run 305 BFG's with no lift, and the 5100 works fine, and looks a lot better than the OEM.

Thanks for the update, mine is on order from Genos, should be here tomorrow, though won't get it installed for a couple weeks.

No pickle fork required with the new style steering linkage. Just an fyi

Any updates?

It's still sitting in its box in the garage... #@$%!:p

I AM scheduling some time next month to get some of the many projects I have parts for done on my truck... kind of a BD present to myself. Will update then, but probably not in time enough to help you make a decision for your project.
