2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Bilstein's?

How does everyone like the Bilsteins? I talk with a guy on Saturday and he mentioned that the Bilsteins rode better than the Rancho 9000’s. My current set-up is factory spring with the overload removed and air bags. I would greatly appreciate and opinions.

just put a set on my 99 at 120k, rides like a new truck again and a nice improvement while towing. the ride is a little stiffer but nice. I recommend them

I went with the racing shocks...

7100 series with reservoirs. . front and back front shocks mount on DT shock mounts.

The rears have the 90 deg. hose option.

It' took a little work to get the fit right but oh man do they work great.

Will I have taken the long way around the hill. The first set of shocks I got to replace the nasty stockers were Rancho, series front and rear. They did help with regard to ride comfort and control. Bad part was the fronts started leaking with about 5-6000 miles of them. I tossed them in the waste bucket and went with Bilstien OEM replacement shocks, over 8400lbs. They were very good at body,sway control, but they also rode a little rough. I keep them for another 15,000 miles and then went to the dual shock set-up with Bilstien 5150 series shocks. These rode better and much smoother then the OEM type, but I still kept my control. I think Bilstien makes some very good products, and i would not hesitate to use them again. I am thinking about building another sand rail and if so, I will be going with their 9100 series shocks.

You will get good service from your shocks, the ride is somewhat stiffer then stock, but the increased ride control is worth it. Good Luck

That is a FabTech dual shock mount, they only sell it as a 1500 truck part. But if you play with it some, it will fit any of the Dodge models. There are several good places to buy it from, NTW has them,Off Road Warehouse, and 4Wheel Parts (right now they have free fright and many other specials with there March madness sale).

I forgot to answer the air bag ?, oops.



I removed my overload spring pack, and installed Air Lift's 5000lbs bags. The overloads are really the culprit with the rough ride. As the suspension goes Thur it's travel upon impacting a bump. The overloads run into there stops, this results in a SLAP , the trucks suspension never got a chance to SOAK up the bump. So you end up with a very rough riding truck, which gets old about this time of the year with all the pot holes.

By removing the overloads, the suspension is allowed to go Thur it's full travel without the sudden stop the overloads use to cause. The resulting ride quality is fantastic. The Air Lift air bags, will allow the truck to maintain it's payload capacity, and they can be adjusted accordingly. One nice benefit from them is the highway ride. I like to add just enough air that they take the weight of the truck off the springs, this is 3500 truck heaven. You get a "riding on air" type of a ride, all the small bump and expansion joints go away.

What is the model number for the OEM Bilsteins? I am looking at replacing my stock one with Bilsteins. I also saw something about a group rate. Does anyone know about that?
