My son just called. He has a 02 2500 4wd. It had a rear brake problem. The calipers locked up when hot. It seems that the pistons are made of a material that swelled up when hot. Also the dampness in Hawaii is a contributing factor. My 78 Volare had phenolic pistons that did this after 80-90k. This truck has about 45k

Anybody had this problem or heard of it?

Along that line does anybody know of replacement metal pistons?

Not sure if this is the same thing, but on my 02, the rear brakes often smoke real bad after driving on a hot day. It smells real bad too. I have noticed that the truck does not seem to stop as quick as it did when it was new. All pads and rotors appear to be in good shape.
