newer info on the new fuel

I have a friend who has been making Bio Diesel to run in his 95 Ford powerstrok and his 2001 powerstroke. He has been happy with the way the fuel has been in the fords. He has offered to sell me some and I want to know if there are any issues to look for when using b100 in a 12valve? Also I would like to know about its use in a 2005 HPCR as well as a chevy 6. 5 diesel with the DS4 standadyne pump. Thanks

Locally, some 3rd Gen CTD's and Duramax's have had problems with Safeway Bio. It's between 5 and 20percent bio.

Caterpillar recommends at least 4micron filtration to run Bio. Best filter available for the stock 3rd Gen filter is 7micron.

I run bio in my 07 5. 9, but before any went into the tank I bought a 2 micron filter setup from GDP. Your ol 12 valve will run fine on it, hell, that thing will run on antifreeze. But for a new CR I would recommend at LEAST 4 micron filtration. Just be aware of the higher gel temps and cfpp temps. Might be a little harder starting in your 12v in colder weather, so blend the bio. Also you'll be plugging fuel filters like crazy for a few months. Be careful of buying fuel from a home brewer. I make my own, and I see the mistakes and shortcuts that can be made that affect quality. Your 12v should be fine, but compare how he makes it with someone else who makes it and determine if you feel comfortable using his fuel before you put it in your CR. I run my fuel through an extensive scrubber and polisher, then a few hours of drying. I've sent my fuel through the minor ASTM testing and it passed with flying colors. Just dont be putting junk in your tank.

I've run up to 100% in my TDI without any trouble; I buy from commercial sources. So far I have used up to 20% in my CTD and it has run fine. When warmer weather returns I'll gradually increase the percentage. Be aware of the greater solvency of biodiesel and have a spare fuel filter available. The bio will clean your fuel system and you don't really want to be stuck some inconvenient place with a plugged fuel filter.

I have been running B100 in my 04. 5 for the past 2 years, over 25K miles and not a problem to report. I have made zero modifications from stock. Just change my fuel filter every 10K or less.

Just make sure your source for the BioDiesel is a quality source!!!!!

biodiesel

I've been running it in my 97 gmc for almost a year now and I definitely have noticed it's solvent properties. I change my fuel filter with every oil change at about 5000 miles. it's usually quite dirty esp at first. it scrubs out your tank and I've heard that standard fuel lines pre 1996 are prone to being deteriorated by biodiesel. i buy locally grown and refined bio from a large supplier here. fwiw

Okay, I am glad to hear your input on this, as I have the gm 6. 5 in my suburban and am hesitant to run bio in it. My sub has had 7 injection pumps, pretty much one a year until I added in an external fuel filter inline before the factory water separator. Based on the responses, my 12 valve cummins will be fine, I already have the LarryB's fuel line at the engine side of things. I will have to keep an eye back at the tank on those fuel lines.
