B-5 now available retail in LV

In today's Review Journal (Business section), there is an article that Sinclair stations, 16 of them in Las Vegas, are now selling BioDiesel. It's "only" B-5 and there was no indidcation of the price differential, if any, from regular #2.

This is good news for the promotion of BioDiesel, but I'm not real excited about B-5.

I noticed yesterday at the Haycock Cardlock station, that the B-20 pumps are now ULSD for the petro component. The price was $3. 179, yuck.

It's been $2. 99 for #2 for about 2 weeks now. First station was a Rebel on Lake Mead road (next to the Fiesta) in Henderson. Now the Fabulous Freddys on Craig and Valley is $2. 99 also.

Rebel at Sunset and Pecos has been $2. 999 for a bit also, put in over $500 so far this week and probably be puting in another $300 later this morning !!

You guys see any benefit from the B-5 stuff that Sinclair handles ?

I haven't tried it. The only benefit I can imagine is better lubricity than the now standard ULSD #2. 5% isn't biodiesel fuel, it's biodiesel additive. I'd just as soon add Stanadyne Performance, got my yearly case.

As for B20 - can't tell a performance difference, though I wouldn't expect any improvement given the lower BTU per gallon compared to #2. The injection pump is a tiny bit quiter, not measured, maybe a decible if I had to guess. The exhaust odor is a little less pungent. I seem to have a little less soot on the quarter panel behind the exhaust tip.

We now have Biodiesel (B20)in Lake City FL on US 90 @First Coast Biofuels only draw back is there not open on weekends . As of today (10/11/06)Ive been paying $2. 49 a gallon,Ifigure if I'm using #2 and have to use an additive it adds 5cents to a gallon. So far the B20 has stayed below or rigth at the price of #2. the B20 has also increased my milage to apr. 18mpg depending on how heavy my foot is.

We were just in Boulder City last week and 10% Ethanol was all we could find. I think it was in the 3. 30's

Didnt run it though... we took a pass on it since the truck we were running just had all 8 injectors replaced and we were 1700 miles from home.

ETHANOL?? Please tell me you're talking about gasoline! Glad you didn't run it or you would be replacing more than injectors

Trouble buying B20

I went by Haycock a little while ago and couldn't get any B20, message said "invalid fuel" what's up with that? I attempted severl times with the same result. I then tried plain #2 and it worked fine. Anybody know what the deal is?

Hey George,

I had that happen too on 4/2. Must have been their April Fools joke ;) I called the next morning and they said that the B20 was accidently classified as "red fuel" (no tax) in their system. I went back on 4/3 and filled up, no problem.

Sounds like someone there is screwing up again. You call 'em this time :)
