is anyone out running biodiesel? i hear that it can attack rubber seals in the fuel system that is if there is any in my 98. 5 24v any thoughts? thanks mike
My friend's dad is a soy-diesel advocate and likes to give away soy-diesel like its candy, so I've run a few tanks in my life. They have been running it in tractors and their semis for over 2 years without any problems.
My Dad had been making a ton of it and had heated the house , ran the tractor , trucks , and equipment with it with zero ill effects. In fact the new holland ran BETTER with it.
I seen a 2ed gen dodge in Topeka A block from the capital building. Bright Red 1 ton. There were biodiesel stickers all over it. I sure wish there was a place to flag him down just to ask questions.
From what I've read about it, using a blend of just 2 or 3 % would increase lubricity by 50%. Thats got to be good for the injector pump.
I think bio-diesel gets a bad rap because of the home-brewed stuff that might or night not be good for our trucks. If you stick with the commercial fuel you should be fine. I just located a station in my area and am going to use it. They sell a 20% blend (20% bio-diesel/80% #2 diesel) so the price is not much higher than straight diesel #2.
It's also cleaner than #2 and uses a home grown product (soybean or rapeseed oil). If we all start using just a little bio-diesel the price will start to come down. Some stations sell various blends... B5, B20, B50. . etc. .
Give the farmers a break and try some. It's made from surplus crops that would otherwise be sitting in storage. If you haven't noticed... the price of fuel (all fuels) is going up. Here's a great opportunity to make a difference.
