The worst experience I have ever had with a car dealer was with the Ford Dealer in Hood River.
I was going Elk Hunting and had a trailer with six pack animals behind my '84 Ford 6. 9 diesel and had very poor power develop.
Stopped in there to see if I could get some help, and was very aware of the time because I had a dead line in Joseph Oregon.
Fortyfive min. after rolling up to their sevice bay, I was ready to leave only to learn that I owed them for 3. 5 hours of labor at $45. per hour, plus another $30. for changing the fuel filter. Not to mention what they charged for parts, shop supplies etc.
With straight face, they told me that working off the "flat rate manual" was for my protection, so that I would not be overcharged for labor.
When I protested, they made it real clear that they were claiming a mechanics lien, and my truck, with the pack animals hooked behind was not going anyplace till I paid up.
A real nice treatment for an out of towner, whom they could tell was in no position to stay and fight with them.
