The first limit should probably be the guidance in your owner's manual.

Next would be common sense or good judgement and concern for expensive parts.

Your injection pump and injectors weren't designed to run on biodiesel.

If it is made right 100%. (B100)

In cold weather it can jell if B100. You may have to drop to B80 or lower.

If you are interested in making it yourself, do a search for “Infopop” & “Biodiesel”. All the information you need should be there.

Cold weather, a good source of raw used cooking oil, time, money and the ability to shrug off a clogged fuel filter. THe smell of the savings is worth the pain.

When I could get it I ran B100 in the summer months and in the winter B20 without any issues. I think I ran it this way for about 4 years straight if I remember right. I have used pig fat, chicken fat, cottonseed, canola, peanut and sunflower oil to name a few. Cottonseed is alot thicker than the rest and canola seemed to be the better running out of them all. Everything was processed and tested by the supplier seeing he used the same thing in his trucks and actually cared about the quality. Be ready to go through a few filters at first being that bio will clean the crud out of your fuel system.

i make my own bio, during summer i run 100% but during the cold months as a rule i would let the tank get down to around a quarter, put in 10gal. s bio then fill up. never had an issue this way. but you do want to make sure the bio's good quality because if it's not &gel's you could end up starving you vp &we all kmow what can happen then. better to be safe, saving some $$$ on fuel will not pay if it takes out the ip.

What limits the concentration of Biodiesel used in our trucks???

I use B20 year around for 5 years now (from our co-op) and I run Jet-A some of the time as well. so far 80K on this VP without any obvious problems.

Actually it seem to like the bio diesel, idles a little quieter, seems to run a little smoother, even seems to get a slightly better mileage.

Pete

One of the significant advantages of biodiesel over ordinary diesel fuel is the 20% placebo content that is in every gallon of biodiesel. It is usually responsible for the improved performance and fuel economy and the smoother running engine.
