KEROSENE K1 added to NO #2 FUEL

Almost Ready for Bio

I was just wanting to know does biodiesel actually raise HP or lower it I have heard both but I was wanting everyomes opinion

There are a few varyables but 3-10% is the range with 5% normal , I like to have the $$$ to do some testing with injectors [ the molicues are larger with bio] and the centane is higher so timing change , but the btus are less and I think thats why if you change nothing then you lose a little.

According to DFWbiodiesel.com.

#2 has 131,000 btu/gal, cetane 45, sulfur con. 300, could point -15, viscosity 2. 7.

B100 soybean oil has 117,000 btu/gal, cetane 50, sulfur con. <1, cloud point 0, vicosity 4. 1.

B20 same formula has 128,000 btu/gal all the other numbers are pretty close.

B5 same formula has 130,000 btu/gal same for all the other numbers not much of a difference.

These are the numbers on bio. You do loose some power around 10 percent with B100 but as far as I can see the benefits are worth it. Been running B100 for 3 months and really like and the Cummins loves it.

Do any fuel lines or seals need to be changed out in order to use B100? How about B20? I'd like to know before filling the tank so there's not a big mess caused by damage rubber hose.

I'm adding 6 gallons to between 20 and 25 gallons of dino. (depends how empty I am when I fuel up). I 5 gallons in 20 would be B20 so I am running a little higher than B20. My 05' has only 4000 miles on it, all around B20. I ran b20 in my 02' for 10,000 miles and noticed a big improvement in low end performance. Fill-er-up, she will love you for it! ;)

B20 will not make any mess. B100 could cause some leaks. The bio will break apart any residue that the Dino has left behind, and it will leave some behind that will/could clog the fuel filter. A good rule of thumb is change the fuel filter every bio fill up at first, to catch all the stuff. Just watch the lines and you will be fine.

I am running B20 and the truck had not ever run this good. I wish you well, I am sure it will be a good thing for you too!

Its true that a high % [maybe over 50%] over time will soften rubber hoses and seals to the point of causing problums , but from what I've been able to find out , most all diesels change from rubber in about 94 , so you may be alright , but I've been trying to conferm for some time and haven't got that yet.

I think vehicles made after 1990 or maybe earlier changed from rubber to some form of synthetic lines. You should be fine I have no problems so far. One thing you will need to do is watch the filter as Crazygator said it does clean the system. I normally change my filter every 6k, I started with B20 and changed the filter every 3k till things cleaned up then switched to B100. Took about 3 filter changes to get it done and all is well now.

Into second tank of B20 now

Well, I bought some B100 from a refinery near here. Got 2 six-gallon cans of it and put one in with a tank fillup. Exhaust sure does smell different, like everyone else reports. Performance is the same; smoke is less at all speeds. The milage seems to be about the same, too. I usually get 20. 5 to 21. 5 mpg combined driving (all work driving). With the B20 (6 gallons B100 with 29 gallons regular), I got 20 on the nose with hardly any highway driving at all. Then when the "low fuel" light came on, I put in the other can of B100 and filled up. Let you know if anything's different about this tank. Don't know about crud in the fuel filter though. I bled/drained it for water today, and not much of anything came out. Fuel pressure "seems" good - no fp guage, but the truck runs great.
