What exactly is this control module behind the batteries in the driver side fenderwell in my 91. 5? I was under the impression that there was no PCM for the charging system in my truck, it was strictly an 'old school' VR and alternator system... am I wrong? Thanks to all... .

That is the PCM, or SBEC (single board engine controller) as the manual calls it.

On your truck its major job is controlling the grid heaters, shut down relay for the fuel shut off, and possibly the speedo from the VSS sensor. Not much more. The 91. 5 was a switch over year for some of the functions, charging, CC, etc. In 92 the rest was integrated.
