Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Black dust fibers on starter

I just pulled the starter off my truck for the first time to replace the contacts. There was a pretty good build up of black dust fibers on the end of the starter. I'm guessing this is from the clutch. Is this normal or an indication of pending clutch problems?
