I have an 05 and it has always sooted the bumper & rear quarter from day one, Brother has an 05 dually and does the same thing. I have an exhaust extension I am installing tonight or in the morning to extend exhaust out 2 to 4 inches and see if that takes care of it. If you want to know where I purchased extension and price PM me. I'll know if it works to cure this in a few days.

I get a light coat of soot on mine too. The only time I can actually see the truck smoke is when I floor it and then it's still a very thin amount of smoke, kinda hard to see unless someone's headlights are behind me. I, too would say that a light coat of soot is normal.

Now, my '93, on the other hand..... the bumper and rear quarter are black as coal, can't see any chrome or paint at all :-laf

If you like the look, you can install a turn-down tip on your exhaust pipe and that will stop the sooting of the bumper.

I have dual 5" turndowns after the rear tires. I still get some soot on the quarters and rear bumper. It's the nature of the beast.

I put on a Flowmaster 5" tip and extended it out 4" and that solved the problem. I could not stand the soot on the quarter panel. .
