Hey guys I am pretty sure it is nothing but on these new trucks does the oil get pretty black even stock? I am not stock at all and my oil gets pretty black and my mechanic is trying to tell me i am ruining my truck with the smarty because it is the cause of all the black smoke which it turn makes my oil black. I have the latest REVO software and run that on 90 with my Flux 1s and the banks on 2-3 rarely get on it and when i do it plumes then clears up quickly. I thought I read somewhere that these newer trucks with all the emissions garbage makes the oil turn black as soon as you change it and turn the truck on?

engine oil analysis will tell you lots... ie fuel in oil.

hows the oil level... is it climbing up the dipstick?

most have real black oil, even shortly after an oil change.

mine is always black even with byass oil filter and synthetic.

what do you mean climbing up the dipstick? it is usually past the full mark when i first pull it but then when i wipe it off it is at the normal reading

Not to worry, black oil in diesel engines is completely normal. Even right after you just change it. Like mentioned earlier, get an analysis if your mechanic is really concerned.

It has to do with multiple injection/event. Mine turns black right after I crank her over to settle the oil and re-check oil level and I'm runnig Amsoil 15-40 with a bypass filter. These 3rd gens have black oil but as long as you keep up with your change interval you will be fine. I don't do oil analysis but I change my oil every 7,500 miles (probably too soon with a bypass).
