Black Rear Bumper

I've got about 3400 miles on my '03 3500 SRW and the exhaust pipe has got the lower rear fender and right ( curb ) side of the rear bumper black and blue! It must get hot back there. Briar

Are you sure it's not just oily soot from the exhaust?

My rear bumper also turned colors along with the lower part of the rear fender by the exhaust. The bumper looked like it had been heated to the point of turning blue;however when I run a wet finger across it, it came right off. The residue appeared to be diesel soot/smoke. This only happened when the truck had < 1K miles on it, hasn't done it since & I've got around 6K on her now. I'm happy with the truck so far, starts good even at 0 deg. F unplugged.

I installed a nice turn-down chrome tip ($25 f/Freeway truck in Kirkland Wa. ). I don't get any soot on my bumper or trailure now.
