Black smoke from a brand new '06 Dodge Black Smoke from a brand new '06 Dodge 2500 Diesel when sudden accelaration. (Only 5K miles) I know that Black smoke is somewhat normal for diesels but thought with the new common rail f/s that smoke would be a thing of the past... any comments???

If I drive real easy to achive max MPG then floor it it will leave some smoke , I think it is risidual build up. No woories it meets emissions.

Mine is an 05 and does it. As a matter of fact I actually got to dot a minivan's headlight that was riding my rear at 85. I was so proud of my baby. :) It has 6k on it.

My '05 has about 22k on it and smokes a ton, especially after a decent highway drive of 150+ miles or so from the build up. In fact, it would smoke every bit as much or more as my 01. 5 did with an EZ box, not that I mind. :D

Put a Juice box on it and for the most part cleared up the smoke except for an initial puff when I get on it.

As the others have mentioned, it's a Diesel it comes with the territory. Mine lets out a very subtle puff when I leave from a stop, I've seen nearly every other CTD 2nd & 3rd generation do the same. Seems like mine does it slightly less when she's got a fresh batch of Powerservice :-laf Now with my Edge/ Attitude cranked up & the low-Boost fuel adjustment set just right, I can fog for mosquitos

Ever own a diesel before?

Not everyone is as knowledgable about the CTD as you obviously are.

Mine will blow soot after a few hours on the interstate. It blows a pretty good cloud too. It's like clearing your throat. It is an easy way to get tailgaters off your back as well. I don't really get any serious amount of smoke when driving once the soot is cleared.

As doppx006 so sarcastically stated, it's normal.

Sorry about that one, I didnt mean it in a smart *** way, after reading it later I can see how one could interpret as that. I just wanted to say I have never seen a diesel not blow black, even my 2 cylinder kubota Utility vehicle smokes. Sorry if I sounded like a dick. and lol I am no Cummins expert that is for sure, I wish I was half as knowledgeable as some on this forum.

You and me both.

I've pretty much broken the users of this site into 5 categories of posters.

1. The "You'll void your warranty if you do that" category.

2. The "My mileage is 230mpg city and 400 mpg highway cause I know how to drive and you don't" category.

3. The "You have to ring and stud those heads if you remove the silencer ring" category.

4. The "I'm here to learn" category

5. The "I've been here a while and maybe I can help" category

This site gets a lot of sarcastic and unnecessary posts from the people in the first 3 categories. Glad to see your trying to help. I am relatively new to the CTD myself, but have learned an enormous amount from reading this and other sites. I spent a lot of time just searching and researching before I posted or answered. I try and stick to the topic when I respond to posts, and every now and then push others to do the same, which I obviously failed to do with this post.

Have a great weekend.
