Black Smoke Help

I recently have more black smoke than I ever seen from my truck latley. It does it on WOT and on cold starts in hot weather w/ a puff. It never done this before. I have been using an additive for the last couple of months. I have been tunerless the last 3 months. Should I worry? My fuel mileage has not changed and my oil level is normal.



However I took a trip to Phoenix, AZ from Norcal this past week. On the way my exhuast pipe sheared in two between the muffler and turbo (looked like someone took a saw and cut it) on the I-210 :{. I ran w/ it for approx. 300 miles like that. Could that have done something running it w/ the pipe not connected? Sorry for the long story, but I am a little worried about the black smoke all sudden.

Straight piping a turbocharged diesel won't hurt it.

I would replace your air filter first. Black smoke means not enough air for the amount of fuel being burnt.

Also, given the noise, I would inspect the turbo. Could be a serious issue there. A blown turbo will not supply enough air.

I cleaned my air filter about a month ago and the turbo sounds no different than usual. Wouldn't the turbo sound bad if there is something wrong w/ it? It should have enough air getting to it. I have a Banks Techni Cooler/Manifold, 4" exhuast, CAI & ATS exhuast Manifold. I get good boost and no change from before. My EGT are no different also. On the freeway doing 70/75mph my reading were (6-8) Boost and (650*) EGT on flat land and no weight. I am coming up on my 10,000 mile fuel filter change. I am going to change it this week.



This wouldn't be a injector problem? I know usually you get white smoke, bad knocking sound and mileage decrease w/ a bad injectors.
