Did you guys have to pay $10. 00 extra to get the TBN from Blackstone? That would be a total of $28. 50. That seems like alot of money!!!

Jason,

Yep, they now (finally... ) offer a TBN report, and I also had to pay the $10 extra for it. However, I am not sure I trust it, as they told me my TBN was 16. 0, and accordign to t apost I have in the Products/Accessories forum where I asked if that was realistic, I am told you can't get a TBN over 12. 9 even with brand new oil!

So, if their second sample gives me such a bogus number, I will be switching over to Oil Analysers for all future sampling.

I have been using Blackstone for the last 5 years or so, first on my old 1987 Ford diesel, then on my Cummins. And until recently, they were ~$2 cheaper than Oil Analysers. Of course if you opt not to get the TBN report from B. L. , they still are cheaper. But O. A. includes the TBN in their standard report.

I have been assured that a TBN (Total Base Number) is a very, very important thing to know, so I guess it is worth the extra couple bucks to go with the gang at O. A. anyway. I'm just curious to see what B. L. says on my next sample for a TBN number though... .

CTC has been good to me!

You might give CTC Analytical a call. Here is a link of their labs http://www.ctclink.com/home/LabLoc.asp

I paid a little over $100 for a ten pack of postpaid kits w/ TBN (or TAN). They have been a great lab and can run other test as needed.

Another source for oil analysis kits is http://www.avlube.com/ which is where I work. Kits are around $15 + UPS, no tax, no handling.

Along with the kit you get me, as I get a back copy of the analysis so we can discuss the numbers in depth, giving you a complete understanding of where the numbers are relative to our engines.
