2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Bleeding brakes

I would like to change the brake fluid in my truck. It has 4 wheel abs. I read in my service manuel that you need the scanner tool to bleed the brakes on these. Is this true? I don't want to have to pay dc to do it for me.

I did mine with the Mighty vac pump and it did not set off any codes, just have someone pouring in new fluid as you remove the old fluid. I removed all the old fluid in the master and then just kept adding more, worked out good and was easy.
