2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Blend Door Blues! Easy fix no more!

An old problem just got more fun.



So I thought my heater/ac blend door needed a Heater Treater fix. It turned out the blend door itself is cracked from the bottom up about 2 inches.



Tried some epoxy but that didn’t hold.



Not looking forward to an dash removal so I am thinking about cutting a lower portion of the box out so I can wrangle the door out, put in a new door, and then put the box back together.



Now for the question…. Does anyone know how the door is attached to the box at the top? (ie does in just have a pin that slides up into a hinge point?)

Update!



Looks like I am using the wrong name for the door.



I may be looking at the "Mode Door".



Dead center. Controls the floor, dash and defrost vents.

You may find it better in the long run to remove the HVAC box. If you do, refer to TDR 46, p. 12 and 59, p. 90.
