Defrost only mode this AM, figured it was the vacuum line connection behind the pump. No, all good there. Traced the line up to the firewall. Appears to have failed right where it passes through the firewall, looks like it broke clean off at that point. Can't see a tail sticking out anywhere. Looks like it might be routed where the refrig lines pass through. Hope to get a better look at it this evening when I get home from work.

Thanks,
Neal

On my '97, and probably your truck also, you have to tilt the dash back to access the vacuum line where it comes into the cab.

Wow, that S**Ks, for a friggin vacuum line. With as much as the dash is in the way it should have hinges and velcro.

Just run you a new one. It goes to the back of the HVAC control panel, right Gary?

Run a new one where you can get to it and fish it up to the control panel. No need to drop the dash.

That is correct. It sounds good in theory and is certainly worth a try.

I look forward to hearing the fix on this. My 99 has been working fine and then a few weeks back it seems as if the air flow changes "all on its own"? Driving along and have the control set to floor - I can hear it changing from floor to dash then to defrost then back to dash then to floor? Sort of neat in a way as it spreads the heat everywhere, but it never did that before and I know it isn't supposed to do that? Haven't bothered to check what or why at this point. Hoping it's a bad rubber elbow in the eng compartment or something???
