What wears out on the heater blend door ? My heat is not working I'm pretty sure its the end door not moving far enough

I'm not sure about your 1998 Dodge (I have a 2002), but your signature indicates a 24 valve, so the solution might be the same. On my truck the blend door actuator is located on the passenger side in the HVAC housing where the floor meets with the fire wall (near the transmission tunnel). The actuator is operated by an electric motor that uses a piece of linkage called an interposer (which cracks) that links the actuator motor to the blend door. I would have never figured this out on my own.

Look up "Heater Treater" on-line and you will find a very detailed article describing the symptoms, testing, removal and installation, and calibration of the blend door actuator motor as well as how to test the blend door controller on the dash. If this is your problem, the fix is inexpensive (a new steel interposer) and it is not necessary to remove the dash. I lived with the hard to control cab temperature for about two years before I came upon this fix. Now the cab temperature is comfortable in summer or winter and has been that way for the last 20,000 miles.

Hope this helps...

IIRC the 98 still used a cable for the blend door Pull the ac control head loose in the dash to be sure, the cable can come loose at either end.The cable can get kinked or break, the door itself can bind if the housing warps or sometimes the door pivots can rust up so bad the door will be hard to move leading to damaged cable or control. There is also a chance the clip on the cable at the door hes given up and slips on the cable

'98s do have a cable to actuate the blend door. The connection to the door is right behind the glovebox. I've made mine work by opening the glovebox fully & grabbing the connector to move the door.
