That stinks! I have the dealership frantically trying to get my truck put back together for the dyno Sat. . Is there a good fix besides welding the plug in??:-laf

is this the same plug in the back of the motor? If so when I pulled my trans I covered the plug with a small plate and filled in the space between the plug and plate with a few washers and silicone. The plug will never move now.

Yes, call this dealer and ask for the cooling adapter that replaces that freeze plug with a adapter to bring water from the rear of your head up to the front. It cools #5 & #6 much better and reduces the pressure on that dead end cooling passage. Also, you'll never blow that freeze plug again. Win-win all around. Check it out. :)

Yeah get used to walking if you take the truck tot he dealer to repalce the freeze plug. they work in a shop all day long or at least They are supposed to work But do you seriously know how often they replace freeze plug? do you know how often they replace them properly? I would seriously consider towing the truck to a reputable gasoline engine builder (more of them than race diesel builders) and never have a problem ever again unless you mix coolant wrong again. Also somebody is responsible for the freeze plug coming out. Whether it was you, jiffy lube, or the dealer I cannot say but your records can. get a hydrometer and test the remaining fluid in the system. make sure that too much water is not the cause of failure if it is last personal who serviced coolant needs to pay the repair and tow bills, not to mention the hazardous waste clean up where it finally dumped. Also I would consider cleaning it up quick cuz if the mice drink it and go in your house and die under the bathtub or behind the walls for instance its a few thousand dollars and very stressful and hard to live in a house with a rotting animal. I speak from experience of trying to use antifreeze to poison the ????

But get a hyrdometer and check that coolant if it is not of correct mixture than goes after who ever mixed it. if the mixture is correct good luck with dalmer chrysler cuz they will swear up and down incorrect mixture even though the mixture sample is sitting there in the bottom of the radiator. But a freeze plug is a major thing in my book I sure as heel wouldn't want failure when i am 500 miles from home or on my way to work ( cant lose job) if its a the DC dealer if it were mine I would load it up and take it else where cuz you are looking at too much of a liability issue with DC techs repairing you problem.

The guy who posted about enterprise engine has the solution that sounds best to me since you are going to a reputable shop.

Derek,

Why dont you do some reading on why these plugs fall out before writing a book of non-sense.

On second thought, keep writing its very entertaining. I love how it goes from antifreeze to a mouse dying inside the wall of someones house! The masked f bombs will also get you far on this website.

You have a software virus. Please package up your computer and send it back to the manufacture with a note stating:

I realize that I just started my second cup of coffee but I was a little lost there for a minute.

Chris, seems everyone started having issues with the plugs after I blew mine out, or it just worked out that way. I pulled the transmission and put a new plug in with loctite on it, JB welded it, then put a plate over it. Later I knocked all the plugs out and installed new ones with loctite.

I'm too lazy to call Enterprise - anyone know the price?

If your too lazy to call, who's putting it on. ? Just kidding. :-laf

For my '95 it was $150. 00 complete. Head does not have to come off if you can get the freeze plug out! Easier to take the trans out if you know how and have the equipment and tools.

Don't know too much about common rail engines but I would assume that even though the fuel injection system is different, the head's cooling passages are more than likely the same. Call them or email them, they will answer your questions.

The picture i posted previous will not fit on a common rail. i bought that to fix mine. The cummins parts guy said it would from what his book said but the bolt holes are much wider on the back of the block than what the part was. PM me if someone is interested in mine it is just collecting dust.

Just an FYI dropping the trans or pulling the head is unneccesary work to replace these freeze plugs.
