Well, here it is. Driving down the road, uphill at 75 MPH, with A/C on, I blew my inner cooler line. I didn't know that at the time, but I whipped out my TDR book and called a local guy who helped me out. Thanks TDR!!! But,... . now it's running about 75-100 degrees hotter on the EGT's. So,,, my question is, why is it running hotter when I tightened up all the inner cooler lines??

please help, thanks in advance

Have you checked the inner-cooler itself to see if there are any leaks in it and / or the rest of the system from the turbo all the way to the manifold:confused:

How is your boost pressure now compared to then:confused:

Not fishing here, just looking at all the bases;)

Any idea what your boost pressure is running? Could the replaced boot be leaking or maybe one of the other connections suffered the same doom but you didn't notice it?

I don't know how to check the cooler for leaks, How would I do that?

My boost is good however I noticed that It (the gauge) moves different then It did before, stays in one spot then goes fast up to where It should go

I didn't replace the boot , just cleaned it up and put it back on,maybe It has a whole in it

I do have one of those things (sorry I dont know what it is called) that I put on, maybe its called a boost fooler, I took out one of the manifold bolts (I think) and It had a spring on it to let pressure out of the turbo. sorry I really don't know what Im talking about

Do a search on here, I remember seeing direction on how to build a test set-up to check for leaks, it'll be a pretty big job unless your handy with tools and such.

That is possible but not really likely, did you make sure the end that blew off wasn't frayed?

Was this done when you were putting the boot back on? Are you talking about a little elbow looking thing that goes into the front of the turbo housing and has a hose running from it to the wastegate acuator? If so it's called a boost elbow. Was it on there before the boot blew and is it on there now?

Ok so you took something out, did you put it back? The manifold is the rusty thing that the turbo connects to, are all the bolts in the manifold? Was there a spring running from a manifold bolt to the wastegate acuator to keep it from opening and you took it off? If this is the case I would guess that the wastegate is opening and not allowing you to get full boost (your pressures should show lower though). This would cause higher EGT's.

Now it doesn't take much for EGT's to be 75-100 degrees hotter, just a little push of the go pedal, were your comparisons done at the same temperature and on the same type of terrain, ie uphill or downhill? I set my cruise at 73 mph and travel the highway coming and going to work, it's relatively flat but my EGT's will vary 200 degrees on that trip do to slight variations in the terrain. Hope some of this helps.

911ram. Are you the person who called me saturday? I was wondering how it all turned out. The thought about a plugged intercooler is a good one. If the boot that blew off was the one between the turbo and the intercooler you may well have some restriction in there. Did you check your air filter to see if it came apart and went thru the system?

Yes that was me and thanks again for the help. I checked the air filter and It looks good. should I still check to see if the intercooler is plugged. And yes It was between the turbo and the cooler

Turbo tim thanks for the info. I dont think I have a boost elbow.

However I do have something like a turnbuckle to bring down the egt's that Is what I was told . but it seems fine and tight
