Here's the story,my buddy took the tst off his 03 because of extreme egts, asked me if i'd like to try it,we installed unit, fairly easy install, trucks starts fine WITH NO CODES sounds normall, lets go.

Put box on level 3 and punched it,not bad ,went to 3/3 and felt a little more. Went to 5/3 much better with some tire spin, egts were 1150-1200. Went to 5/5 with powerbraking off line, launched great for 75-100ft and boom!!I thought i blew a intercoler hose, nope it was my turbo. ouch!!Put spare stock turbo back on,took off tst,all is well. BE CAREFUL!!!

I thought this was supposed to improve performance not kill it!!

we did check,i was real nervous as to what else might have been hurt. The exhaust side took a mean licken!!

how much boost were you able to pull before it poped? Im guess'n you had your elbow in? and also did you happen to see what you egt's maxed out at right before it went?

Doh!

What do they call it when you get that back pressure that reverses the turbo when you immediately back out of a hard throttle? 'Chucking'? I'm almost certain that's what happened to you; tends to bust stuff especially at high output. A previous run may have even been the culprit -- weakening it then it broke. It ain't the TST! It's how you drove it. What turbo were you running?

I don't see mention of removing the EZ; so you had it stacked with your EZ too?

I've heard of people barking their turbo on purpose. I've heard a couple of them bark, it gives me the willies. Before I knew what was actually happening, I prob thought it sounded cool too. But YIKES! The mayhem that can be caused by that! I usually go so far as to not hit "cancel" when I've got the cruise control on if boost is over 15 or so. I'll rest my foot on the pedal, hit cancel, and back off the throttle slowly.

Overkill I'm sure, but I don't want a snapped shaft.

My . 02,

Andy

I towed hard yesterday on 4:4 with no EGT issues and no smoke. Normal driving I leave it on 6:6 and it's just awesome.

quick on the throttle and quick off will kill any turbo

even on a stock truck

this is what causes barking and what will eventually wreck stuff

Your flat wrong!!!!

Big mak,you couldn't't be any further from the facts,I'm well aware of drive pressures and I did not back out of it,i wanted to see what it had,it blew while i was on it. Be fore you go telling me how to drive you should get the facts!!!A number of turbo's are being destroyed, tell all those guys they don't no how to drive!!

Walcott you commented about "punching it" which could lead one to think it was possible you may have barked it. . . and how was Big Mak to know you knew about drive pressures & barking before your last post

Do you know at what LBS of boost that the break happened?

And what boost elbow did you have in??

that EZ elbow and the TST box are BAD NEWS together, the ez elbow is too little air flow and with the tst box you can hit some serious pounds

Blew turbo with TST

I remember the days when you could pass along what happened to you so maybe it would help someone else out without being told what you did wrong by people who where not there. Vaughn you were right when you said Big Mak didn't know Allen knew about drive pressures, then how can he be certain that's what happened? I was there and I didn't see Big Mak in the back seat so I'm sure he doesn't know what happened. Allen was just trying to tell people what happened on a stock truck, the Edge box was not on at the time, so maybe someone else could avoid this. The TST box is not to blame,Maybe, it all goes back to the guy driving.

Someone needs to come out with a blow off valve for these trucks.

And by the way JOByrne, I can't believe you ran 13's with a SO! Thats flat out awesome!!

WALCOTT,

I ain't on your side of the fence on this one ! Thats not a challange either. Just sayin' that the way your post came off was like a "WOW , Ive blown my turbo ???? rather than a "Hey ,I,m @#$%^& off ,turbo's wrecked and LOOK OUT everyone I might want a pound of somebody's arse ! The facts are still interesting and the speculation(in whtever form) is natually going to HIGH. Myself included, until the real/proven cause in known. Time will tell all brother,OH YEA...

Did I miss something?

I don't want anybody to side with me,I SIMPLE WAS SHARING THE FACTS!I DON'T LIKE GETTING JUMPED ON when i was simply sharing info. I understand u play u pay.

Thanks tomeygun for the info!!!

EdgeEZ elbow

I am also still running my ez elbow. I think I might want to change to the TST. I run mine on 5/5 all the time and runs great. But better to be safe than sorry.
